Boat Info
Just backed out of purchasing a 2002 Sea Ray Sundancer 300 with crescent dinette floorplan.
Engines
165 hour twin 5.0L Mercruiser MPIs.
Well, I just signed a contract for our very first boat! A beautiful, low hours, 2002 Sundancer 300. Big boat for my first, but I grew up around several bass boats and I'm really looking forward to twin engines! Survey and sea trials next week then she's ours. Excited and nervous all at the same time.

Open to any and all tips, suggestions, and ideas. Have been reading up and watching instructional YouTube videos for about 6 months. Would like to do some of the basic maintenance myself (oil changes, installing a floodlight, and adding a bilge heater for starters).

Looking forward to learning from all of you! Also, feel free to make me a little more comfortable with this big boat! :smt101

good luck and congrats. I went from a 17' to a 290 that is 32' overall. it was a big leap but just go slow and take baby steps until you are comfortable. a big tip that someone here gave me was to go as slow as possible around the dock. actually you can never go too slow. keep the engines at idle and just shift in and out of neutral - reverse - neutral - forward.

Slow is Pro! Thanks, AFD!

What kind of drives?

Congratulations, best of luck next week, and welcome to CSR!

Great feedback, sfergson727! I do indeed intend to treat it as an airplane. And I will seek out the training...it's just in my nature. That is, IF I get the boat. I just posted a terrible revelation in another thread...I found that it has been damaged. Your feedback is HIGHLY appreciated.

TexasPilot, are you ex RCAF? Friend of mine named Jeff lives in TX and just wondering if you are him.Welcome to the best Boating site on the web. Richard

No, I never served in the RCAF. Must be a different guy. But thanks for the welcome!

I forgot to mention the class. as Scott brought up. very important and very cheap. you can find them for around $100 and only take an afternoon. I have been on the water my whole life (less than sfergson727 ) but I'm taking a class this year with my wife and a friend and i'll probably take them every few years as well.

where are you keeping her? I just got my 340da a few months ago and have her at a docko at Highport Marina on Lake Texoma Maybe see you up there

there are a couple of Texas boating courses on line that are required and or highly recommended for new boaters. I believe it costs 19 bucks but very good info. I have been boating for years but still found a lot of good info there especially for bigger boats in bigger lakes I also recommend you signing up for boatus tow service for inland lakes. you are going to need it some day

Well, IF I get her, I was going to possibly put her over at Cedar Bayou. Highport was my first option 6 months ago when I started doing my research, but Di called me back yesterday and told me that due to lake levels, boats had been moved out of many of the 30' slips and she had none to lease until the levels came back up.

But it's not looking good for getting this boat (http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/65385-Damage-history-on-boat-I-may-buy)
