460 DA Owners Thread

Happy new Year all !! How is everyone? Any new boat toys or mods?

Happy New Year! Yes I have a mod in progress. Stbd. engine swallowed a valve seat :-( Seems Cummins modified the valve seats in 2006 so now a modified head. Not to mention a new piston and liner. Oh well, this actually happened in December so I'm not blaming 2014. Going to be a great year on the 460!!

oh no fr8dog, sorry to hear!

Question for all: Anyone aware of a breaker other than the one on the generator itself? As I was winterizing, the genny was running but no electrical output showing on the control panel in the salon. I checked the breaker on the genny and it was not tripped, any ideas?

Russ,

I don't remember, but if you have Onan, check the breaker on a side (it's on the side where the electrical board is located) of the genny, not just the one on the genny's front panel.

Also, front panel has a breaker and a switch, so don't overlook those too.

I'll drag a camera down and shoot some photos with John to see if we can collectively get some decent information to you guys. John mentioned that he purchased his boat within about a month or two of my purchase but what he didn't mention is how much money in booze he saved me! When someone upgrades boats in our club, many people come pay their respects......for the year at least! John took over the crowd within a month or so and has been paying ever since! Thanks John!
Toy yoT is a great boat and the cockpit has so much room it handles a good size group comfortably. We have spent many a night solving most of the world's problems there.

We we finally shot a few photos of the bed extension so here they are. The first few are the bottom showin the plywood and the rest are from the top. A local shop did the install and it looks great. The mattress is sweet, nice and thick.

Thanks Ken! That extension looks mighty fine! At least 8-10" would be my guess.
Appreciate the post!

Hey guys,

I am thinking about storing my Zodiac inflatable for an upgrade to the Boston Whaler 110 Tender. Does anyone have one of these or something similar? My biggest concern is the weight difference. I figure the zodiac and 30HP Mercury I have on it weigh about 300lbs. The BW Tender looks like it weights around 600lbs. Lastly, does anyone know what the lifting capacity is for the hydraulic swim platform?

Greetings fellow 460 owners. I've been strictly an occasional viewer for a while, and just had the time to post a pic of DISCOVERY and set up my profile. We bought her late last spring and we simply are amazed with everything she has to offer. It was an upgrade from our 38 Dancer and the differences are incredible. Adding Satellite TV right now and of course getting the buffing and bottom paint started. Can't wait for Spring to get here ! Can't wait to poke around on the site for new ideas and resolutions to any issues.

Welcome to the site! You have a mighty fine looking vessel there captain!

Well for the last few month's I have been making some upgrades to my 460. Started off with a new bottom paint job, underwater lights and followed with the hull and top side being waxed and buffed. I then ended up having a front shade made for the front and interior shades made for the cabin enclosure. I continued with adding Bazooka speakers to the topside of the hardtop with a Fusion 700 radio and speakers in the cockpit. I ended up putting flat screen tv's in thr forward berth, salon, aft berth and the cockpit. Lastly I updated all the electronics with the exception of the Ratheon Autopilot. I decided on a Garmin 5212 Chartplotter, Garmin GMR 404 HD radar, Garmin GMI 10 data display, Garmin VHF 100 radio and Sirius Weather. Here are some photos to check out.

Nice updating to your 460! I did the same with the electronics when I bought mine in early '08, keeping the autopilot. This past year I needed a new board in it because it finally failed. Took out the radar/chart sync with it.

Nice upgrades. I believe your boat (KC Lady iirc?) was next to mine while I was at Treasure Island last winter. She looks great.

I believe it was Tim. Do you guys know of a way to upload more photos? For some reason I am only able to upload the two previous photos.

There are size restrictions as to how many photos you can add without sponsoring the site. if your photos are on the large side you might have used up your free space. I sponsor the site annually and it is worth every penny. You get increased photo space as a benefit.

I am really interested to see where you put your bazooka speakers. Sounds like some fantastic upgrades you have made in the past few months! I look forward to seeing more photos!

Is anyone familiar with anything, switch, breaker or fuse etc that may interrupt power from the generator to the salon panel? Just prior to winterizing this past fall I lost electrical output- at least at the salon control panel. I did check the breaker on the genny but that was it as I had to winterize. She is a Westebeke and never had any issues. Any ideas?

My genny is an Onan but I had the same symptoms (no power at the salon panel). There is a emergency off switch on the Onan that my mechanic must have brushed up against while working on the engines. Turned that on and everything was normal again.

Uh, your sponsorship must have run out.

Here is a photo of the Bazooka speakers, exterior shade around the helm and new radar. The second is a shot of the rear shades I had made for the interior of the camper top. Really nice on cool nights when you want a little privacy. Lastly, the upgrades to the electronics as I mentioned in an earlier post. I have also installed a flat screen tv in the forward berth, salon and aft berth, photos to follow later.

Haven't been active in this thread but read it religiously. Am planning on changing the interior cabin carpet to amtico flooring. Just choose the wood but don't know how much I need (boat still shrink wrapped). Anyone know the sure footage of material I will need? Doing the salon and galley and both forward and rear stateroom and all steps.
