Official 320 Dancer Thread

I pretty sure we started with a queen sized piece of memory foam and trimmed from there. Use an electric caving knife if you can.

By the way, anyone have a measurement of the front mattress? I know it is not square but trying to buy a piece of memory foam and will trim. Just need a max dimension. Much appreciated.

Exactly as CJ as said, start with a queen size piece and trim from that.

Hello all! My name is Steve and on Friday I'll be out viewing a couple of 320's I've been researching and I intend on purchasing one of them (if all works out well). Based solely on cost, I've narrowed my search to the 2006 model year and I've done a lot of research on this forum to better understand what I should be looking for. That said, just what should I be looking for? (FYI, the engines on the two boats have 190 hours and 320 hours respectively; which I would think is low for both (i.e. good). Agree?)
- Cosmetic: Does the boat 'look' well maintained? I'm somewhat of a believer that if the outside is underloved, the interior (i.e. mechanical) may be as well.
- Max Rpm: I've gotten conflicting signals here. I've seen 5000 or above, but a dealer told me 4600-4800 is really what you want and 5000 is over-rev'ing. Comments?
- Maintenance history: What's been changed when and, importantly, when was the last time?
- Survey: Seems like fairly cheap insurance to me given the investment, but is that the consensus of the group? Would anyone 'DIY' based on certain criteria?
o I'm assuming the Surveyor would take care of most of the mechanical items (water pump, fridge, etc...)
- What else should I be considering while looking at these boats? What questions should I be asking?

My wife and I are quite excited to get a 320, but given the investment, I want to get all the sage advice I can as I make my selection.

Thanks!

New 320 owner here, great boat. Yes, get a survey. Not even a question for me. We actually passed on a boat due to what our surveyor found. Everything looked mint, until he started to do his moisture tests. Bad news, so don't judge a book by its cover. The surveyor should go through all the mechanical systems, not the engines. ours was an easy survey as it had been done about 16 months back when the entire interior of the boat was redone. We also had our marina do a compression check of the engines.

What engines do the boats you are looking at have? Ours has the 5.7 and at WOT were right about 4,700. Figures with a little growth on the bottom that number was just fine since I had read 4,800 was the sweet spot.

good luck, happy to answer any questions I can.

Don't want to hijack the ask, but curious the ranges folks are looking at. I may at the point soon to look at moving to something larger and have a great 2004 320. Curious about thoughts. Thx

320DA owners, in searching for your 320 are there any particular reasons why you chose the 320 over the 340DA? I have not yet made the decision. Looking at both, and found likes and dislikes on both. Haven't really been able to clearly set one apart from the other but I am early in the search (target is 6-9 months). My target years are '04-'07 for either.
When I went shopping for my 320, I looked at 340s also, The bottom line was I couldn't justify an extra $40k for a boat that was virtually indistinguishable visually. Ok so the berth may be a few inches longer, and the counter top in the salon was a few inches longer. 320s were selling for $100k and 340s were $140k when I shopped in 2011. I just didn't see what you were getting for the extra $40k.

The 320 is the boat I have owned the longest I am on the 7th season. Really in general have no complaints. It is a well implemented boat. Mine hits 5000 rpms at WOT - haven't taken it to that speed in a long time. I am sure it has dropped some since the bottom is no longer fresh. I hit 5020 rpms on the nose with new bottom paint and the props redone/scanned.

Raymarine radio 320.jpg

Does anyone know what model Radio this is on a 320??? I'm not near the boat and need to get some numbers on replacement cost before Monday.. Thanks

It is the Ray 215 most likely - don't expect the new model to be the same size. I replaced my Ray 210 with a 215 on my 260 and they were completely different.

Steve here again. I'm the presumptive new owner of a 2006 320 that looks like it was just launched off the showroom floor. My wife and I are really excited! The survey is tomorrow afternoon, so wish us luck! If all goes well we'll have a sea trial Friday afternoon and the deed will be done. Once it's all official I'll uplink some pictures like a proud papa.

Just splashed new to me 320 yesterday. Took it for a short cruise and got comfortable idling around the marina and backing in the the slip. My wife complained about exhaust smell while sitting on sunpad...is this common?

Are you running your blowers? There shouldn't be any exhaust smell up on the bow (sun pad) ... Especially with inboards that exhaust underwater...

At idle my 330 dumps exhaust and water out the side. Depending on the wind yes you could get some exhaust smell into the boat. Once you pick up speed the underwater exhaust takes over and dumps water and exhaust underwater and you should not have any smells. Given you were idling the whole time and moving in and out around the slip, yep you could get some smell. But you have a different boat, the 320 should not be running that rich that you have that much of an exhaust smell....

Had an issue with starting my port engine after being in the hook for about 8 hours yesterday. Used the emergency start. Inspecting the batteries today, I noticed the three are all cranking, no deep cycle. How can I tell which one is the house battery to replace?

Thanks

Thank you for the responses to my exhaust question.

Spent the weekend getting to comfortable and familiar with everything. One problem I can't solve is the factory installed TV's....i can't get any reception. I've switched from cable to antenna...wondering if the 2006 equipment would need need digital converters or an upgrade? Anyone else have to do anything similar to get reception?

If you only have three batteries I'm guessing you don't have a genset...mine has four, wired in two banks. There really isn't a "house" bank in the factory configuration. There is a wiring diagram in the owners manual.

Yes, you will need a digital converter, I had the same issue. I wired a digital converter into the splitter for the glomax gain so all the tv's get tv reception. We now get good tv reception. You would think the flat screens on a 2006 would have a hd converter, but not these..
