Abacos, May 26 - June 8, 2013

Islandhopper, when is your trip, when you crossing, where you crossing to?

We'll be leaving from Lake Worth inlet saturday morning on June 29th. We cross to West End, Grand Bahamas, clear customs, fuel up and head North to Grand Cay and Double Breasted Cay near Walkers Cay. Stay a couple of days, then head east to Carters Cay for a couple of days. From there we either islandhop to Harbor Town Abacos, OR run to Port Lucaya Grand Bahamas and stay a couple of days before heading home with a stop at West End to top off fuel and leave the islands for the mainland US. All depending on weather. The summer is usually most predictable so that's why we go when we do. This year seems alittle different so We're keeping our eye on weather patterns.

Tom, my family lives in Orlando, Conway really. My cousin lives in Sanford. SO it is a small world, you just might know some of them. Heck, Lance has met my Uncle at Caladisi island when he was there on a trip. Like I said small world.

We like to be in Port Lucaya for the Forth of July, because the locals put on a great show and fun time for the American Holiday in Count Basie Square. Limbo and dancing, singing and plain ole partying. Plus the Casino is accross the street now. Fun fun.

We are leaving the 22nd (or there and abouts) from Ft. Pierce and heading over White Sand Ridge to either Spanish or GTC. We will clear in one of those ports. Staying for approx. 2 weeks. There are already 3 boats, sportfish boats, over there now and when all is done and said I think we have 8-9 boats meeting all in Guana for the 4th and the pig roast at Nippers and Grabbers of course. We are planning on staying at GTC, Hopetown, and maybe Treasure for a beach day but all up in the air as to where we go and stay the night. I know hopetown has a new marina we may try out.

We are leaving on the 20th from Cape Canaveral to Ft Pierce to White Sands then up to Walkers to clear in. From Walkers to Grand for dinner at Rosie's - long first day. On to Double Breasted and island hopping for a couple of days to Green Turtle then island hopping on down to Marsh and if time allows to Hope Town and Guanna. Right now forecast shows 2-3's with southern winds at 10 and chance of thunder showers for the crossing..... Typical.

Dang it man. We'll all be there at the same time.

Is Walkers open for business, is there gas/fuel? Or is just the customs office open?
We thought about leaving from Jupiter and stopping at Walkers to clear, but if there is no gas, I'll be running on fumes to get to Grand Cay. (I know, we did this one year).

Nippers is fun fun. There's a chance we could do that. Is Jimmy Buffett going to do the Cheese Burger in paradise thing this year at no name cay?

We are trying to not have a schedule this year, just kinda drift where our hearts desire.
Good luck, fair winds and following seas for all.

May see you at GTC. We leave FLL 29th and will go to GTC that day. Hope it's like today. it was so smooth you could see the reflection of the clouds in the ocean.

Only thing at Walkers is customs, walkers is closed with no activity at all. Grand is the only stop in that area for fuel.

We will be at GTC for only 2 days, then Treasure for 2 days then onto Guana where will have about 8 boats when it is all said and done, most of us coming in smaller groups but the plan is to meet at Guana for July 4th party. Don't know if JB is doing No Name , didn't even know about that. I know there is the Stranded Naked party on July 3rd. Probably wont go there but who knows. We are planning on fishing, tuna , phins, wahoo? whatever the hell else is there I guess.

Thanks Tom, it has to be a very calm crossing, for me to be comfortable to try to make Grand from Stuart. AND I crossed the sand bore (can't remember the name) instead of going around. In my small boat that is an option. It was 3ft at it's lowest depth, yes I touched bottom crossing! It's a strange feeling seeing the bottom at 3ft and no land in sight!!!

JB actually caters to the sail boat crowd, but us stink pots are invited. haha The sailing regatta happens this time of year.
