Ever feel like Marie Antoinette ??

... dont worry about them and those that make nasty comments do what I do, just ask if they like "sex and travel":)

Has anyone noticed the irony that the people who accuse us of having "yachts" are often the same who are SHOCKED that it takes more than $47 to fill with fuel?

If I had a dollar for every time a patient told me they bought my new truck, or paid for my kids college...I always tell them I didn't rot your teeth, you did that yourself. All you are paying for is getting them fixed. I don't DARE show my boat to anyone.

the Admiral was shocked when I swiped the card for the 4th time(75.00 limit per swipe) filling up the 240...she may have a stroke now ...especially when I tell her we need to turn around and get the other tank

Right now I do and it sucks
I really want to celebrate the purchase of my 340 with many friends and co-workers
but most don't even know I bought it ( some don't know I was looking).
From thier own lack of planning and personal and financial
indescretions they live paycheck to paycheck or just can't pay thier bills at all.
How does one be proud of accomplishments without seeming to be rubbing it in that you
have made yourself more sucessful in planning and saving and making the right investments while working hard every day rather than playing around and missing work for no good reason.

Do ya just say ...."Let them eat cake" or keep the news to yourself ???
If you want to celebrate take your wife out for a nite on the town and celebrate. What's the need to share with friends, especially if they're the way you describe. They might not take it the way you mean it. I can hear them "he wants to make sure everyone knows he got a bigger boat". I wouldn't go out of the way to enlighten the world on your new toy...some will find out soon enough...you'll only like it if they ooh and aah and offer congrats. If they aren't boaters don't talk to them about boats unless they show interest and ask. My .02

Congrats on the new boat:grin:

That's a good response. I suppose you get the "it must be nice" comment...that one just irritates me to no end for some reason.

I get the "now we know who has all the money"
but I don't....I just spent it

We get just the same from our patients too:) Had to stop putting the FREE boating mags (from the boat show) in the waiting room, they accused of us having a million $ yacht! I wish:)

I have people make the comment i must have a lot of money since i have a boat. My reply is I bought a boat I dont have any Money.
,
Remember some people spend money on stupid things, I bought a Boat.

I took the risk, I paid the price and I reaped the profits. Let them eat cake. I have a little canoe but I'm just as proud of it as if I owned a 40 something. BTW those I take on weekends with Old Skool are glad I took the risks too.

"I don't like money. So I bought a boat" kind of thing....

Work hard, play hard. People make choices, everything you do, is something else you decided not to do.

I choose a boat, not a party lifestyle :D

Don't concern yourself with what people think, enjoy what you have and be comfortable about how you achieved it.

I have an open invite out to friends to come out on the boat and still struggle to Greg a crew often.

A 30 year old boat, hmmmm, mines new only 19 years, must be remember that it costs so little, when that monthly invoice for the marina comes in for $750. Or as for yesterday when I decided I wouldn't fill it up, as it is better to run round half full fo weight etc(well that's what I told myself) so I only put $740 of fuel in it. Then of course there's anti foul, servicing, repairs, polishing, yes polishing due to my back and neck I can't do it.

So I don't look at myself having less a boat than the people who have brand new boats tied up on a mooring quickly detiorating as they don't use them or look after them.

As far as appearances, I bought my wife a BMW, which I love driving. However I hate driving it to work and then going out to see a customer, because of those same comments everyone here as previously said, yet a lot of them are driving SUV's or Trucks, worth more.....go figure.

Invite your friends out, rub it in, the ones that slip cash into your pocket at the end of the day for fuel, understand and are true friends, those you invite out regularly

People slip cash in your pocket after a boat trip? I guess I better start being a better host, as my friends usually disappear like roaches when the lights come on after a boat day! LOL

I have 2 groups, those that do an those that don't. So no brainier as to which ones get invited first!

Honestly, though doesn't faze me but it is nice when they do.

We are planning a Tuna fishing run, which will be 24Nm straight out, running around for several hours, then the run back. The suggestion was my boat would be the most comfortable, has a coffee machine an a heater! Actually were talking a 16', a 20' centre console, or mine, an it's winter so a no brainier.

But the two main guys quickly started calculating how much each I will be in fuel. That's why they are fishing buddies

I have friends at work asking all the time when are you going to take the crew on a boat ride , I say there are work friends and there are boat friends they don't understand my boat isn't a public restroom also they would trash the boat when you have a boat that cost as much as some of their house .

We have more friends that are not as well off as us. We tell them it is all about choices. We do not go out to eat as often as many, we watch what we spend and where we spend it, and manage to save a good amount for retirement. Our home, boats and vehicles are all paid for. My good friends all know that what we have is for enjoyment and that we spend time together and share the joy. They also know that we take care of what we have. They are appreciative and do not make comments about our lifestyle. Those that do get left at the docks.
it’s a lifestyle and many believe it should be an entitlement and all have the right.

Just had this conversation with a co-worker Thursday. Said I will talk boating anytime with you but not at the office in front of anyone... My wife and I have worked hard for our money for a long time, save religiously, and share with family and close friends..... But like most of you said I too try to shrug it off like no big deal when someone asks about the boat..... They would not get an -$800 fuel fillup.

Most of them thought the 240 was a yacht ... I will definitely enjoy the extra realestate on the 340.

I have heard this statement alot from people. I have a photo I took when I was in Charleston SC at a big marina. It's a great picture of my boat. In the back ground all you can see is a huge yacht! My boat looks like a dingy next to it.

I show the pic and rave about how big my boat is while watching the look on their faces. Between my sarcasm and the pic it usually drives the point home. haha

I tried to put the pic up, but technology is such an awesome thing that I just don't understand how to use. I'm to young to be so challenged by it, but then the time is still flashing on my VCR! haha

Nope! Our boat is not the newest but one of the nicest at our club and I paid for it and wax it......good for you too Jim! My 1990 makes the newer 260's look small and I take pride in that plus I have no payment and a nicer cabin. We are smart large boat owners not poor new boat owners....just sayin. I've always worked more than one job here and there plus own my own small business so I'm not afraid of talking boats with the have nots......they have their hobbies and we have ours.....no regrets and love our 1990. I just made a $100 upgrade to our galley and head faucets and a new refrig ($845)......friends of ours won't spend that on their house kitchen! Just different priorities I guess, Mike.
