In the process of removing and replacing new the transom/rear flooring area of boat. Foam is completely saturated with water. I am going to remove foam and wondering about purpose of foam. Does it need to be put back for structural or safety issues, or can it be omitted? All plywood is water damaged and must be replaced. Thoughts?

Thanks

Rob

do a search on this forum,i think you will find lots of educating experiences.

the foam is for sound deadening ....most of us who tear in deep live foam free happily now

The foam could also keep your boat afloat and get you and your family to shore in case of a traumatic hull breach. There are a lot of options to keeping the new foam dry when you put her back together.

I had 21foot searay with saturated wood and foam. I asked Searay about replacing the foam. They said the foamed in compartments were to prevent the build up of gas fummes in a hollow compartment.
