How much can a Tahoe handle?

below are links to (2) old threads - but good discussion on 3/4 ton Suburban.

I bet your boat dry weight is about 5K lbs, trailer another 1Klbs+.
Short distances to and from the local ramp you would probably be OK ... although not reccomended ...
For long distances, I would go with the 3/4 ton Suburban - awesome tow vehicle - and no issues with my 290 (even though I am pushing the limit as well).

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the great response. Looks like the Tahoe is out. Looking at a Chevy 2500HD either diesel or gas, not sure yet. This is a great group of people on here. Thanks again everyone.

I pull a 06 240da with a 2001 Yukon. It has the 5.3 engine, 4:10 gears, heavy duty torque converter, tow package, air bags inside the rear springs, and does an ok job. I've never felt unsafe or scared towing.
I will admit the 240 is all that Yukon wants, and pulling any kind of hill is tough on it. So, I'm fixing up an old 1 ton gmc to do the towing duties.
So I'd say if your just pulling to the local ramp at lower speeds, it'll do it. On the highway, you won't like it.

I also have a 2006 24 DA... I purchased the boat and had a 2006 Chevy Avalanche...The 240 DA is 5500 lbs dry add a trailer about another 1800-2000 lbs and you are now at the absolute maximum with the 5.3... Also many of the SUVs have coil spring rears to give the smooth car like ride. I opted for the 2500 HD with the 6.0 litre. I could not justify the additional expense of the Diesel....I also opted for the 3.73 rear instead of the 4.10's. I tow about 3000 miles a year maximum and it would take a lot to justify the expense of the Diesel.... I towed from the Hudson Valley region of NY to Georgia at a typical speed of 65 and averaged 10-11 miles per gallon towing. I love the HD and would highly recommend it.... IF money is no object buy the diesel.....

I towed my 260 Sundancer with a 2007 Yukon. It had plenty of power, but it could use a longer wheelbase and stiffer suspension. I towed just a few times a year to put it in and out of the water for the season. It worked good for the few times I towed with it.
