Official 240 Sundancer Thread

Love the one I had added. Purchased from swimplatforms.com , shipped to my dealer and had them install. Pricey but love the additional real estate. Look at my albums for a pic or so.

and btw, i only paid like 38K for our loaded 2008 with 70 hours on it.

You see, this is exactly why I can't trade this boat. I paid $70,000.00 for mine new in 06! Before the wonderful economy did what it did.
Now, the boat new retailed for like $90,000.00 At the time I don't think I did so bad. So, now that the value is even less now, $35,000.00??? I still owe like $55,000.00
Question, would you want to bite the bullet for a $20,000.00 dollar hit, just because people didn't do the right thing in mortagages, and the economy tanked? I don't. I guess I'll keep running it.
Maybe one day at the docks, someone will walk up to me and just have to have my boat and make me a crazy offer I just can't refuse!!!! Yea! hahaha

Swimplatforms, what do you want to know? This boat needed the realestate, and it gets used alot.

I have an anchor roller and windlass on my boat, but it is a totally custom job. I'm not aware of an anchor roller that will just bolt up and use. I had to have a glass shop reshape the bow to accomodate the roller I used. It looks like it belongs there, but cost a mint to make it look that way. Mint= $2200.00 for the whole set up, parts and labor.

I didn't mean to kill the mood on the 240 thread. Ask/talk away. I'm not really that grumpy in person! haha
There is part of me that likes my boat, like the .....well the....and the....ok the stereo sounds real nice! Naw, really I'm proud of my boat, and get alot of comments about it. Specially when I pull into Grand Bahamas, Port Lucaya and people ask if I just brought the boat over from the US. I had one guy buy me a drink and tell me I must be crazy. haha

For all you 240DA owners......... you won't find a nicer and more helpful guy than Mike (Islandhopper) and he has a wealth of knowledge about the 240DA.

We both bought our boats from the same dealer on Lake Wylie about the same time. Mike used to boat on Lake Wylie before he moved up to Lake Norman which is how I met him. We both had similar issues with how our boats ran (the 240DA and 260DA of this particular generation have similar handling traits) and many of those things were worked out with help from fellow CSR members. This site has some really knowledgeable folks that are always willing to help out a fellow boater.

BTW Mike, I didn't realize you installed a Windlass. Nice work !!!!

Dave

Thanks Dave for the support. Your right, "we" have learned a lot in the school of hard knocks from these boats.
Yea, windlass. I grew tired of hoisting the anchor by hand, and not having a place to store it. It works great, maybe Sea Ray will steal the design and offer it as a option on the new 240da's. haha

I agree about Mike aka Islandhopper, he knows the in's and out's of the 240 DA. And you will not find a more decked out 240, than Frayed Knot!!

Thanks Chris, I've spent alot of time pondering the upgrades. I see you are trading up! Nice. If I ever get back to the coast I'll go bigger. For now, I just wish I had your generator off the 240da! haha

We (Carolina Boaters) need to plan a trip to Savanna again. This time maybe reserve dock space at a marina though!

I know the 240 cops a bit of a hiding on here but I have to tell you ... This is my first real boat and I absolutely love it!

I am a real beginner when it comes to cruising and this boat does everything I ask of it.

...it goes straight, it turns, it rides the waves and the kids love it.

I know there are better options out there and of course I will upgrade to a "bigger, better, faster, more" when I can afford it but to little rocket has my heart at the moment!

This is from 2 weeks ago:

Hello Matt, good to hear your enjoying your boat.
Your boat is actually a much different animal than mine. Sea Ray changed the 240 dramatically in 2006. They wanted to build a more ocean capabable vessel. They tried to meet offshore specifications which would be a good thing, except the reality of the changes didn't work so well for calm/lake style boating. IE: changed the hull dead rise from 19 to 21 degrees, which makes the hull very tender.
Anyways, good on ya, enjoy your boat.

island hopper, mine's a 2008. i'm taking it to the ocean next month for the first time. what kind of handling should i expect?

also, (to everyone) i pulled it out this weekend to test everything and have no hot water. being that the boat only has 80 hours, i didn't want to replace water heater and was just going to start with changing the heating element. sound like the correct choice?

Are you sure you have the water heater breaker on?

after filling the tank and flushing out the pink stuff, i turned the water heater on (at the panel) for about 15 minutes and it was still cold water coming out. is there another breaker switch? the hot water may have not ever worked since i bought the boat because i can't remember every trying the hot water from the end of last summer when we bought it.

Should just be at the breaker. I don't recall if there's a breaker on the HW tank itself. I don't believe there is since it's in the engine compartment.
