For all of those that use a Silverado to haul the boat around. If you have the fuel management system and are having an issue with excessive oil consumtion, get it into the dealership and have them document the problem! Mine is a 07 with 125,0. There is a problem with the rings and pistons, also the lifters, oil pump, and cam shaft. If it's not documented and you are past warranty, it's on you. Don't let the dealer or Chevy try to make you pay for half the repairs and they WILL try! This is a manufactures defect! It really shows it's face when you're hauling weight, mine was up to two quarts every 1000 miles. She goes in for a rebuild on Dec 26.

What engine do you have in your Silverado? Is it a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?. I assume that you mean the fuel management system is the 4-6-8, meaning it runs on less cylinders when it is not working or towing? Please let me know as I have a Silverado?

1/2 ton 4x4 V-8, and yes but mine runs 4-8. When it shuts down to 4 the other 4 get a carbon buildup due to them not firing, the cabin fouls the rings and the oil pushes past them, the pistons wear on the cylinder walls.ect...ect...ect.

First I heard of this, I suppose i'll have these to work on next. Leave it to GM to mess a good thing up.

If you search it on the web, it will give you all the info needed. It usually starts around 60,0 mine dropped a lifter right at 55,0 and as I said before I'm up to 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles, but you must have a dealer document the problem.

Bulletin number. 10-06-01-008E models 2007-2011 Cad Escalade, ESV,EXT. 07-011 Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Suburan, Tahoe, Camaro, GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra Denali,Yukon XL, Yukon Denali XL.
Pontiac G8 GT 08/09. The engine list is long, I strongly suggest pulling up the TSB!

My wife's '08 Envoy Denali with the 5.3 has been burning oil for the past year. At 55,000 now, all the more reason to unload it next year...

Gm tried this motor on Cadillac's in the 80's it was a disaster, I don't see how you can have 4 cylinders drop off not firing ? Wouldnt they just lag along causing undue wear and tear? As described? I just rented a 2013 Yukon XL for a trip after our expedition needed an alternator , (first major repair in 10 yrs 102.000 miles) the Yukon rode nice and fuel economy was showing at 13 mpg at hwy speed , our expedition with 5.4 L gets 12.4 MPG so I don't see e big difference here, I told the wife I wouldn't trust the 4-6 motor while we rented it . Funny to read this thread now.
