New 510- Photos? Thoughts?

The 2 most popular boats were PD&E boats so they were going back to PD&E and were not being sold yet. Most of the other boats were production boats and will be thoroughly cleaned before being offered to dealers. Sea Ray isn't picky at these things, they just want customers to have a good time and see what they care to see. I usually wear soft sole boat shoes and always remove them when getting on a boat with wood floors or when I must walk over upholstery to get on smaller boats, but generally boat shoes saves the shoe removal exercise.
Frank, just curious as to where Sea Ray is in the process. Is there a significant period of time left before the new boats go into production? I see they haven't put the 510 on the website as yet; assume that happens when they are ready to sell them. Also, any significance to the 510 being in Knoxville? I guess I thought the larger boats were made in Florida.

The 510's are already in the pipeline and in production in Palm Coast, and I believe they have already sold a few boats. From what you saw in Knoxville, all the tweaking yet to do is pretty much esthetics. They take the PD&E boat we saw in Knoxville back to Merritt Island and use it as a test platform for the changes they want to make. Those changes may or may not be included in the first production boats.

Prior to the Homecoming on Friday, the Sea Ray dealers were at the Knoxville campus from Sunday thru Thursday where the dealer personnel did the same stuff we did.......look at boats, ride on boats, ask questions etc. Typically, any new products ready for the start of the new model year, i.e. 2013 Models in this case, are shown at the dealer meeting and that is why the 510 was in Knoxville, along with the 370 Venture and the Meridian. Those boats are probably on their way back to Palm Coast, Florida by now.

I was told my my sale rep the 510 will be at Prince William Marina in Virginia for this weekend's boat show.
Just what I was told.

I was also planning on getting a look at it next month in Ft. Lauderdale.
The open top past the helm is very similar to some the Lazzara boats.

WDCboater, just curious where your sales rep got his info. Talked to Prince William and they had not idea what I was talking about.

I'm not in a position to argue with some salesman from Prince William, but the 510 is supposed to have a riser added to elevate the salon couch and table, which had not yet been fitted to the boat. The one in Knoxville was supposed to go back to PD&E to be fitted for that alteration because they have 510's in production now.

IMO, the 510 was nice, but I really liked the 470, but I would get a 510 with the Zeus on it. Theres nothing more awesome than the manouverability of that vereses the V-drives/Straights, but I'm sure capt' Rusty would argue with me on that.

I don't care for the Atrium feel, I like my DASH, I throw crap up there all the time, plus I like my Man cave.

As far as the Atrium goes and I think Frank alluded to this earlier, Keeping that thing cool ain't going to be easy. Now think about this, most of us like to keep the AC on our boats on even when we are not there. Not sure why but we do. My Electric bill runs $150 a month in the summer and I only keep the man cave cool and I only keep it at 74 while I am gone. If I left the Cockpit AC on I bet my bill would be $300-$400 a month. Can't imagine what it will cost to try and cool the new 510 while you are away from the boat and you will have no choice but to keep the whole boat cool. But I guess if you can afford a $800k to $1 mil boat, who cares about an electric bill.

Would like to know more about your 470 preference. We drove the heck out of the 470 when at the 2010 Sea Ray event at Merritt Island. It handles like a sports car. However, I've always loved the 480/500 cockpit and helm which is why I was looking for more 510 pictures.

We are looking for a couple of particular things in our next boat - mainly an entertaining area that is comfortable and open, but also not away far from the helm (i.e. no fly bridge). The other is no front canvas...and quiet. I really like the cabins in the 470 through 500 since they don't feel like caves. The cabin on our current boat is useless for anything other than sleeping.

Wow! $150 a month for electric? For the boat?! Is it $.75 a kwh?! Are you metered? My next question would be if you are metered and billed separately is the marina licensed to re-sell electricity supply?

Well they've got the boat loaded up in Knoxville and headed to Michigan to drop it at my marina!! ;) 510.jpg5102.jpg

Yep, each slip on my dock has it's own meter. The whole marina is not that way but my dock is. Had to call the electric company and have them come out and turn the power on when I first got the slip. Each slip has a meter that is owned by the electric company.

One thing that I like alot is how the Fiberglass above the front windshield does not overhang the windshield. I really like that aerodynamic look. Looks real clean.

I like the option of the atrium alot but the practical result is a huge increase in the required BTUs to cool the cabin and much higher electricity cost. Arguably, these costs are minimal compared to the purchase price which I'm sure will be well in excess of $1MM. My solution would be an elegant retractable screen across the bottom of the atrium opening.

I have had 3 hardtop boats (390DA,48DA,540DA) the 48 and 540 both with cockpit a/c and have always been "eyeing" the 610DA as my final boat. With that in mind I wanted Sea Ray to add sliders to the Sundancer line beside the big 610DA. But when I saw the "atrium" I thouhgt No privicy, and how do you keep the lower decks cool. I really thought they would adjust the standard u shape cockpit seating but still use a companion way hatch to give us 2 distinct levels. Upper saloon, and lower saloon/living quarters. It seems the boats are getting "crowded" for the hull sizes. I think the engineers need to talk more to "active" boaters about design features. Tweeking it does need!

Interesting. I'll have to ask him when I'm down there this weekend. It sounded odd to me at the time when he mentioned it. There is a possibility he was referring to Ft. Lauderdale. I'll be there for the boat show end of Oct and he know's I'm going.
