Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

Got new long block installed, bellows, etc.no more over heat on lake george for vacation for week seems so nice to have it back to normal.still like lay out of this boat over alot of new ones down stairs sleeps four comfortably and plenty of room above.lot of money to fix a older boat but definitely worth it.

Here's my order of the mid cabin foam. Looks like I won't have to do a lot of cutting on this one. Last year did the front bed with this stuff. I went to 4 inch and had to cut it all with an eletric knife. I got it all done and I think I really didn't need the 4 inch. My but don't even come close to the plywood with this stuff. I will see how the mid cabin works out. This is out of "TheFoamFactory" out of Canton Mi. Free shipping.

I am looking to do same what kind of material did you use to recover as we want to redo our down stairs?

Right not i'm just going to use the old stuff over like the front. Worked out good with the front with going to the 4 inch foam. Plenty of extra cloth to make up the difference. Like the wife said, that is good stuff for stains and getting wet. With two little kids, everthing gets spilled. Just took the two little ones out on the boat for the night last night, Had to get the shop vaccum out three time's to clean up my new cloth in the dinnett.

I have a stern sun bed that swings out on a piano hinge and the legs fold down and latch in place. The latches are plastic and starting to fail. Where can I get replacements?

It's on here some were. Can't find it righ know.
I know McMaster Carr had it. Somebody posted a part number and everything for it. I made one for mine, not a latch but out of steel and will not brake.

Thanks, I did a search for McMaster Carr and it showed up; part no. 1173A21...the SeaRay salesman said they make this part for other companies like SeaDoo but he couldn't find it.
I have enough winter projects lined up and was not looking forward to another one.

Here's what I did before I found out I couuld accually buy a new one.

I went to mcmaster car website and ordered mine with part #exact replacement but black not white

A tree limb fell on my 270 and took out the port windshield ($2000 from MarineMax) and tore up the bimini. I was considering a hardtop to replace it, in the Texas sun you want the shade. Anyone do anything like this? Any disadvantages to a hardtop? In the two years I've had the boat I've never taken the front section down and on several occasions when I unzipped the center section it was better closed to block the sun. If anyone knows of a used windshield I'd appreciate the info!

Dick, this is what I did to my top for various reasons including more sun protection:
We did this eight years ago and have been very happy with it.
Change top configuration from Convertible to Bimini. Additional, non-folding hardware put in place:

Eisenglass piece is used to fill in between windshield and top, new sides pieces were made for the front half of the canvas

Here is another view that shows the framework for the top. The front section of canvas has zippers so it can be removed by just unzipping the pieces:

This thread has be dead lately, anybody doing any improvements with there boat this winter? I would like to fix my bow rail this year, don't know it its accually going to happen. Lot of work for a little improvement that I chould make look worse when i'm done.

The only thing that I am doing is to repair and refinish my spotlight. The horizontal movement was not working, so, I took it apart to find that the servo that runs the horizontal had come loose and was just lying in the case along with the mounting screws. Glad that it was not a stripped gear. Since I have it apart, I sent the case in for refinishing. They say 6 to 8 weeks and about $300.

My dock neighbor has a '91 270. The thieves came along and cut his wires and stole the spotlight. This past year we have had a lot of theives on the docks. The marina did not give us much attention until the thieves hit the managers boat. Now we have a security service on site, although at minimum wage I don't think that any of them would confront a thief.

We also have empty slips in the marina which I have never seen before. There has always been a waiting list. Additionally, it appears to me that there a lot more can boats in the marina. Economy, I guess.

What is with photobucket? It seems like I can't just copy and drop a picture from there to here anymore. Just this little crapper of a pix. How do you do the full size pix?

Here is a link to a the full size pix of the spotlight with the loose horizontal servo, if anyone cares to look: http://s979.beta.photobucket.com/us...t=6&o=0&_suid=1354803884634011891544237766532

Hey bigblock,
we are re-upholstering the interior of our 270 da this winter. Started out removing all the bolsters, cushions etc. Just about through with berth cushions and dinette. Using Sunbrella fabric and replacing plywood where needed, and anything else I find. also going to build a teak table for the dinette to replace the folding laminate orginal. Will try to post some pics when we get the job done.
