310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

Hi guys,

seems like I'll be joining your club :) with a 2008 310DA with 350MAG Seacore B3 Axius Premiere. Seller and I signed yesterday - now just waiting for sea trail and surveys and then the long wait for shipping from Florida to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Reading through this thread I found these items to pay extra special attention to during survey:

1. Battery voltage in cabin
2. Drawer cooler temperature
3. Battery type 31 AGM preferable
4. Water inlet for Generator
5. Axius Software version
6. GPS antenna for Axius??

Is there any other "special attention" items I should have carefully checked?

Any help appreciated! Thanks!!!

Re: Clearing water system antifreeze.

I haven't found another way to get at it, and actually asked the forum in a recent post and didn't get any answers.

Drawings place it somewhere around the mid-berth (like underneath it), but I haven't seen a way to get at it.

First, before killing yourself, take a clean cup of water from your slip hose (after running a while), stick it in the microwave for 30seconds or so, and smell it. This is to make sure the smell is actually your tank, and not just the town water. Lots of towns have smelly water (seems sulfur and dead fish (manganese) are the most popular).

If it is bacterial, the bleach will fix it.

Is the boat new-to-you from elsewhere? If so, and the local water doesn't stink, you may just have to fill and flush the tank a half dozen times to get rid of it. Open ALL the taps to flush all the lines.

Finally, you can try this or this (I've used this one) which will neutralize some chemical (source water) smells.

Rich

I have tried both those products but have stuck with the camco water freshener for some reason. Seems to go a bit further. I load it in before filling the tank, and try to drain the tank down to 1/4 after the weekend if it's not already down.

Also, if your boat is similar to mine (assuming so), you get to the water tank through an access hole in the aft cabin seating area. You have to unscrew it.

Have the dealer call in a Mercury Tech and do a Software Update... when that was done for me last year it took care of all my Axius problems and they replaced the Battery's and GPS antenna under warrantee !
Good luck you'll love the Boat!!

I have your exact same boat, minus Axius. When I bought mine, there were only 2 with Axius on the entire east cost of the US, and it would have cost an extra $100,000 to get it. That seemed a bit steep, I hope you were able to do better.

More importantly, you are going to LOVE your new boat! Congratulations.

That was my plan - if it is possible. ! :) I am in the middle east - so I'd rather spend a little to have everything updated in the US before it leaves.

and I am sure I'll love the boat :)

Thank's Rich - I am so looking forward to it. I had not expected to find an Axius model I could afford (I did stretch my budget slightly) - but my target boats was Chaparral 310 Signature 2006+ or Sea Ray 310 Sundancer 2007+

But due to the Volvo XDP stern drive issues - the majority of the Chap's was not worth buying (the drives break down and you can hardly get spare parts for them any longer) -so that left me with very few options. And fortunately this one seems to work out after two Chap's either would not accept my bid - or could not sell due to mega mortgage on the boat - so Karma landed me at the Sea Ray 310. So I must have been a good lad this year.

And coming from the 210 Select - I liked the 210 for the most part. But on the 210 there was far to many self-tapping screws though - and cable harness was the same length as the one used on the 220/230/240 - so electrical system was a PITA to debug. And all the extra length was just "zip tied" into bundles. And that seems to be where Chap's shine a bit brighter. But for resale value- I think I made the right choice.

I hope the 310 is more considerate to tinkering :) as my boat knowledge exceeds 90% of the mechanics here. Not because I'm good.. but... in the middle east - if it can't be fixed with silicone filler - it wont get fixed at all :) (It used to be chewing gum.. but modern times.....)

Status on "my" 2008 310 Sundancer :) is papers are signed and deposit sent - and survey on (hopefully) Monday by Henry Pickersgill from FL.

And Axius/Batteries/GPS is updated according to seller.

Question: Does the MAG350 on the Sundancer have the cool fuel III with the painted inside? Anyone had problems with that?

Has anyone replaced their C80 GPS with any other GPS on the310 2007+?

On pictures it looks like there is not a lot of extra space but what can be pushed in there?

anyone use that crazy umbrella that goes in the rod holder behind the rumble seat?
No... but after this past week with temperatures at 90+ degrees, and trying to find shade, I'm thinking it might be useful!

For our boats, this is the best accessory: Anchorshade II

Works great, much more comfortable in the sun, available lots of places.

Time for an update - I have joined the 310DA club pending seller accepts my money transfer and sign for one last time.

Survey 1 went well apart from a non starting genny and Axius update not sea trailed and enabled.... :-( - and the Skyhook warning label was not put on yet. Survey 2 was today checking the remainder.. And now everything is working. And skyhook warning was put on by Merc Guys. So it has the updated Axius and Axius GPS and "new" blue top batteries.

The boat needs quite a few new hoses quite soon - but apart from them - Surveyor says "Looks almost new". Engine's came back with 192-197 in compression test - and 39 sec's of engine overheat as the worst - for 270 hours operation time.

So now I just have to wait for shipping. I bought a trailer for it - since it saves almost $3500 in shipping. (No cradle building and no crane lifts and cheaper land transport) - so "relative" price of trailer was $3500 for triple axle with brakes on all axles.

So estimated first time i'll see the boat in real life - is currently September 5th or 6th.

But the next few weeks will probably be very busy - since the probably biggest drain in our personal finances - and guaranteed our biggest joy in our lives - will be arriving around August 20-27th.... (yes "we" are expecting our first baby sailor )

And a couple of pictures (of the boat...)

kaz911,

Congratulations on the 310 and the new sailor!

What is the year model on the 310?

I see camper canvas and a grab handle on the arch that I don't have...

Thank you and thank you :) He will be the 4th generation sailor :) in the family I hope. We are mostly "sailboat" sailors - but that does not work where I live now.

Its a 2008 - (So SERTxxxxB808 hull) - and I think the Camper is an "extra". I think it has the "Reverse Cap" :) as you have as well - and the funny rear seat umbrella. - And with a new baby and hotter than FL in the summer - shade is gold (and so is A/C)

I'm thinking I need a subwoofer... I have the "upgraded" sound system with the power amps, but I have to turn the bass way down to prevent distortion when I crank it up.

Anyone add one? Where did you mount it?

Yes this is barnacle heaven - I had my 210 select in the water for 1 1/2 year without paint. But I have a Copper Ion generator mounted on my dock. I started out with a 2B Sure version but it kept breaking down - but now I have made my own that can take the heat here. But the 310 will get CopperCoat I think.

The 310 is now at the Jacksonville Shipping Yard. Here is a picture from just before she left Venice FL:

So hopefully she will make the August 4th Utopia Ace departure and be here around September 4-7th. Just in time for the start of "our season"
