Hi all
Just did sea trial yesterday on a loaded AJ. Boat has teak decks, kohler gen, chiller plates, drawer fridge under helm seat, dual nortstar 6100i, autopilot, life raft, sat tv, motorized aft sunshade, under water lights, etc. Beautiful boat with yellow hull. My question is what are cruising rpms with twin 350 mag horizon w/v-drives? Starboard motor was off 400 rpms at WOT which surveyor attributes to props that are a bit dinged. A few other minor issues all of which seller agreed to fix to include having props worked. Any advice on pitch for props boat seemed a little slow to get on plane? Pics to follow. If all goes well hope to drive her from Great South Bay to Guilford, CT a week from today!!!

Man what a beauty. NEED pics !

You will find this article very helpful as it compares engine configs in Amberjacks.
You should get just shy of 35kts at 3500 rpm on your V-drive but on-plane time is a bit longer due to the forward weight distribution of the V-drive setup.

My 2007 AJ with Merc 5.7 B3s was way off the numbers on her sea trial, all attributable to a slightly fouled bottom. A haul and scrape job helped a lot.

As for your boat being over or under-propped, there are specs available from Mercury, but SeaRay ships the boats with an optimal prop setup so if the previous owner didnt change things up, just getting the dings out may be your fix.

I am a saltwater fisherman, and I liked the V-drives because of corrosion resistance, but the engine compartment was a bit tight for me on a small boat like the 290, and because I run 30 - 50 miles, the extra gas on the V-drives was an issue for me. Problem is I have to keep my boat up on a lift at all times.

Good luck and keep us posted !

Thanks for the feedback. Trying to upload a picture now,

We basically have the same boat, except for the teak!!!! Do you have the full teak deck in the cockpit? I guy online is selling it for $3k and I just can't get through my mind that it has to be glued down.....

Clean bottom, 250 gallons of fuel, 3800rpm, 22 knots, 28 gph

fowed bottom: 19 Knotes and 3950, burning 33 gph - Flaps down for most of the run

Getting the thing pulled and painted in the next few weeks cant wait.

thanks for feedback that's pretty much what I've seen so far. I love the boat I was hoping for 25k cruise but I can definitely live with the performance. I do have completed teak decking looks awesome! Here is a question for you there are 3 switches as you enter cabin. 1 is main cabin lightning, the other the aft cabin, I can't figure out what the 3rd controls? Any other advice you have based on your experience I'm all ears. Thanks -Pat

My 320 with the same engine and v-drives runs around 3700 rpms at about 24 mph (GPS) - It get's on plane nicely with good props. Having the props reworked will make all the difference.
