460 DA Owners Thread

I normally don't guess at answers, but my boat is very similar to the 460. Isolate the circuit by determining which breaker in the main panel controls the ice maker. Once you do, then you know generally where in the boat where the GFI is going to be located. I suspect it will be on 120V breaker labeled "Port Circuits". If it is, them look in the galley and galley compartments above the counter. It could also be as far forward as the head on the port side.

Hope that helps you narrow it down.......

On the 2000 460 that I am familiar with the GFI is in the engine room on the forward bulkhead for the ice maker outlet and the regular outlet in the cockpit.

We dropped a buffer cord in the water and it tripped the breaker in the cockpit, took a while but finally found it in the small grey box on the forward wall of the engine room, I believe it was just about centerline.

The flow rate and pressure should be substantially better with both pumps turned on. I suspect you have a little bit of trash in one pump or perhaps the diaphram has a hole in it. But be careful when taking t hose pumps apart.........there are more pieces than it seems necessary to pump a little water.

If only one faucet was open, I wouldn't think the pressure would be much different if one or two pumps were running since the pumps are in parallel. The volume might be a little more, but might be hard to see visually. I would think the big difference would be seen however, if multiple outlets were open at one time. In that situation the total amount of water flowing out of all the outlets would be substantillay different when comparing one pump running to two pumps running.

Frank, are the two pumps set to come on at the same time, each time? Or are they staged for one to come on shortly after the other? Or do they both come on every time? Just curious of how this system works. I really like it. I wouldn't mind adding a second parellel pump to my setup so if one goes out, I still have the other on line. And could then deal with the bad pump when back at port. However, I am not sure how you would know when one went out unless you had seperate breakers for each pump and could test each one now and then. Or do you think it isn't worth the effort. Regardless, I do carry a spare pump on board.

Spot on!! That's exactly what I did and that's exactly where I found the gfi, a little to starboard of center line on the bulkhead. Thanks so much

Okay next question, separate waste tanks, they both have a pipe coming out and joining together to the pump out outlet. They each have a red T valve handle that was close (both) I had to open them to pump out the tanks. Should they remain open or closed? If closed you have to go into the bilge and open every pump out? It sounded like both tanks were equalizing when I opened them,

Someone has to know the answer- no?

I keep it open all the time so the tanks will equalize out. Plus I would be way too lazy to open it up each time.

I keep both mine open all the time Russ, with the handle to the overboard discharge off so as to not get into environmental trouble. Works fine, pumps out equal.

Thanks, been a member for a while I see, not many posts. I hope you do now that you have a thread! How long have you had the 460? Any mods? Pics?

Thanks Ric ,I wanted to be sure. Hope all is well and we see you soon in the river!

Russ,
I have been boating all my life. I have had a 410 sundancer, 480 sedan bridge, and now the 460. I have had 460 since last summer. My family liked to be more outside is why we went to the sundancer again. I love to look at posts occasionally to see what I can learn.

Me too and we have had all bridge boats until the 370 and now 460. We love the entertaining potential and being all together outside. One of the reasons I conceded to the lack of hard top on this boat- I love pulling back the canvas and being outside.

I am going to change lights to LED. Does anyone know how to get the cover off the lights in the hardtop?? I don't want to scratch stainless cover.

Thanks, John

They twist off, not easy, I used a glove that had that gritty finish on them to get some holding power. Also if you are a little handy you can pull another wire, change the switch and have two different color lights, Bob

Actually they make tri color replacements that work with existing wires and switch. You just toggle it. Red, white and blue about $100 each it's a great mod. LED.

Does anyone know the trick to getting the side panels, vinyl and plastic wood panel, off? Particularly the shorter starboard side. I am trying to get at the old Clarion wired remote in the arch to replace.

Thanks for help. I will look at yours and Russ way of doing lights.

Russ, if they are like mine, those panels use the little "Christmas Tree" plastic fastner and the panels just pull off. I use the blue painters tape and slip a big flat bladed screw driver behind the panel. Maybe start with a small screw driver to pry it up a little then slip the big one in. Pick a spot where even if you scratch the Gel coat, it would be a spot hard to see.

Instead of screw drives, consider using plastic putty knifes that you can buy for a couple of bucks in Lowes.

Bingo! That was the trick, thank you!
