This morning I went in for what I believed to be a 15 minute procedure, having an implant in my right eye.

It went very bad.

I was awake during the procedure. I remember the doctor saying he wanted a suture. Then he said one of the round suture not the straight kind. A female voice said they have those, should she open a pack. He said, no I’ll make this one work but make a note for future procedures.

From what the doctor told me post-op he had the implant in place then it swung into the eye. He things (thinks? Are you kidding me?) one suture is intact. If it lets go and the implant hits my retina I’ll be blind in that eye forever.

They sent me home. The doctor said they need to find a retina specialist that can see me soon and will try to remove the implant. Oh, don’t move around too much, don’t lift things, etc.

I just got home. I’m scared as hell. I really don’t want to be blind in my one eye. I’m waiting for the phone to ring with instructions on where to go.

Holy SH**... DANG MAN ... I do hope you end up ok... how crazy is that... please keep us posted on your situation and I wish the best for you...

Wishing you the best here. That is really bad, take it easy, will put you in our prayers.

Thank you for the well wishes.

No cataract. I had a cataract 30 years ago due to an injury in this eye.

I did not need to have the operation. I got talked into it.

Basically I was told that due to advances in technology they can do a 2 step procedure, implant is step 1, then step 2 is laser about 6 weeks or so down the road. This would improve my vision from 20/40 (with contacts) to about 20/25 and I would no longer need contacts. The improvement in vision is due to the relatively new ability to correct the extreme astigmatism that I have in this eye due to the injury.

At no time was I told the risk of this procedure is any higher then implants they do every day.

Oh my, that is horrible. Please take it easy and try not to worry. Yeah right, easy for me to say.

Good luck, we will say a prayer for you.

We will also keep you in our prayers. Do what they say but worry only puts additional stress on the body so try to relax. (I know, easier said...) MM

Sorry to hear that, good luck and best wishes.

Get on the next plane to Phil and go to Wills Eye Hospital they are best in world. Call 215-928-3300

Wishing you the best!!

Terrible and completely unnecessary. I agree with vandal, if I were you I would call Will's Eye right now and explain the situation, have them contact the doctor that botched things up and if Will's gave me the OK to fly i'd get there on my own dime. There is not too many things more important than you eyesight. I definitely would not allow that Dr. with 50ft. of me.

Wishing you a full recovery, so sorry to hear what's happened.

Best wishes to you! I hope everything goes well.

The admiral, before I met her, had RK done and I think they used Ginsu Knives on her as they tore her eyes up beyond repair! Then, since laser surgery was not FDA approved in the US, they sent her to Tijuana to a laser center in a strip mall. She drove there and back alone and at this point still most likely needs cornea transplants in both eyes. I anticipate and hope for better result for you.

Before surgery in the preparation area the nurse (not sure if she is a nurse or not) gave me instructions including to not talk.

At first I was almost asleep. As the procedure went on and on, way longer than expected, the sedation seemed to wear off and I became more conscious and could hear everything.

Lying on the recliner chair/table during the procedure I could tell it was going worse and worse. The doctor would swear “****” and “damit, ” etc. Hearing that as my head was taped down tight not knowing what was going on and not able to ask was terrible torture.

After getting home I was expecting a call this afternoon with a appointment set for a retina specialists. No call came. It’s now after 5PM local time so I called them only go get voice mail.

I don’t think I will be sleeping at all tonight.
