My office is in my home so I may not be a good example.
I recently got a ipad2 + iphone4s hoping to not haul the laptop with me when I am on the road. I got the biggest memory on each hoping to do serious work on both.
The phone has exceeded my expectations but the pad has disappointed me.
The phone is a good phone plus good for those quick email replies. I'm using the calander, notes, reminders, it's my contact list in my pocket, the camera and I use it staying up to date on various news, weather, and alerts. I have music, movies, games & fun apps like NFL mobile and use them some but that is not why I got the phone.
The pad is good for fun for a portable, fast to turn on web browser for surfing the web, games or Facebook, or even streaming a TV show but serious work just requires more like a traditional keyboard & mouse, far more advanced email, file management, adobie capabilities and more. There are so many restrictions that apple seems to have intentionally put on it. For example I can move a photo from the laptop to the iPad but not back. I know there are time consuming work arounds for all these barriers but why did they make it so hard? No USB port? Really?
In brief, the laptop and smart phone are business tools, the iPad is a toy and there is no longer a clear line to define when I am at work.

I usually work for a good hour when I get home from work. With no distractions at home I can get a lot more done.

work is a 24 hour job, 7 days a week year round........some nights i work zero, some nights 2-3 hours.....vacations i am on the computer 1-3 hours a day and on the phone for an hour.........technology just will not allow for 100% "No Work" time........People expect answers immediately with how technology is.............people always say, it must be nise to take the boat away on weekends........it sure is, but i also put time in on work.........there is no such thing anymore as a vacation without work......lets not forget, i am also always thinking about work....

I'm a work every waking hour. Long trips on the boat I will bring the laptop. But mostly ipad and iphone.

Interesting twist:
I own small businesses, but make no money from them and spend little time dealing with them currently.
I am an airline pilot, and currently, I do not take my laptop on the road with me. So, when I get home, I do my domestic "Work" on my laptop for a few hours. I don't take my domestic "Work" on the road with me. That time is for flying, dining, exercising, and resting.
That's why you'll see several posts from me in a row, and then nothing for several days. If I miss a comment or question in a post, it's because it has aged out by the time I get around to clicking on the "New Posts" links when I get home. We need a "My posts" quick link like some other web sites.
NEVERMIND! Just found it under quick links. It says "subscribed to" posts, or something like that, but you don't have to "subscribe," apparently. Just click the quick link and it takes you to ones you've been too, I think.

When I'm working, boating and CSR are great escapes and I have solved several boating issues with thoughts that came to me while working. Conversely, I often find the best solutions to business issues, set goals, and mentally review where the business is heading while boating. MM

What a surprise.
The "I am only going to put my shift hours in and the company can go f* itself after I punch out" crowd on this thread are the same ones saying the world owes them a "living wage"...
My businesses would all fail if I ever "punched out"... I love buying employees laptops and smart phones... They can't punch out then.

Just a tip for you 24/7 connected guys...don't talk to them when you're sitting on the toilet, somehow they can tell. The next day they pass it around, all have a smirk on their face and claim that's where all the sh-tty ideas come from.:grin:

If, at least a part of your working life, involves a computer of some variety, there are few, if any, physical reasons that limit us from "working" 24/7.
If you are intrigued, at least, about what "you do" (own your own business, or, not) its very tempting, to be "dabbling in", constantly, (24/7). And when you're "not able to be staring at it" it can seem like you're in some "holding pattern", nervously waiting to get back "into it".
It seems to have become a way of life and I thing that it ties into a few of the other threads, that have generated so much discussion here ("what would you do about the econ", "buy American", "we are fat") we are serving the infinite capabilities of digital devices and we are practically "dinosaurs" in some comparison......I'm rambling......:smt101
