Our microwave on our 1990 350 sundancer has died, Wife bought a new one and it keeps tripping the breaker. The one she bought was an 1100 watt microwave. Question is.... What was the original microwaves wattage?

Thought about putting in a larger breaker but im sure I would have to rewire to support the extra current draw.

Thoughts anyone???

Does searay have a phone # where I can contact them direct to ask them this question??

Thanks for any and all help

Microwave ovens are rated in power output. That's how much power is emitted by the magnetron to cook food. Obviously, the higher the rated power output, the higher the input power will be. The input power could be rated in watts (on a label on the rear of the oven) or in amps. At any rate, the oven should be on its own dedicated 15 amp circuit. If you bought your boat used, perhaps a previous owner has added something else to that circuit. If that is not the case and you do have a 15 amp circuit breaker, then it sounds like your breaker may be bad. Unless you really know what you're doing, you should have a qualified electrician check it out for you.

I can't tell you what the watts are on my microwave but I can tell you the amps it draws. I had my #2 panel out to troubleshoot after a side flash lightening strike recently. My micro draws 8.3 amps. The label on the back says it is rated at 8.5 amps at 125vac. Hope this is helpful.

Volts x Amps = Watts

I knew there was a simple formula. Believe it or not I used to be an electronic technician in another lifetime, many years ago. Thanks for the info.

So that would make my microwave about 1000 watts. I have to say it acts more like a 650 watt antique. It takes about 45-60 seconds to reheat 8-10 oz's of coffee that is room temp. My home micro makes it piping hot in 30 seconds.

Thanks for the replies guys, I got ahold of searay and they where able to tell me the model # of the original microwave from sharp. I contacted sharp to get the actual power ratings of the model and they told me that the microwaves power was 700 watts, He also said they havent made that micro since 1994 (no suprise there, lol) I went out and bought a 700 watt micro last night and it seems to be working just fine without tripping the breaker. Only issue now is to make it look nicer in its cubby hole seeing its smaller in size than the original one was. Winter project for now I guess

Many thanks
