It's an electric head. I think a vacu-flush but not sure. Stock 96 Sea-Ray 290 sundancer.
Electric motor on the backside base of the toilet and a push button switch to flush on the sink wall.
Last time out it would suck everything down fine and quick but would fill no water back in...none. Not in thew water and not on the trailer. I would just use water from the sink hose to fill/flush when we where on the water.

Boat has been sitting for a month now on the trailer and we have an upcoming weekend. Potty was dry so I added some orange holding tank chemical in the toilet and let it sit for while. Half hour later I noticed an orange trail from the base of the toilet.

This is my 1st electric head so any guidance would be great...thx

I'm not positive but it doesn't sound like a vacuflush system to me. My vacuflush doesn't have any motor on the toilet. It does have a footpedal to the left side of the head that flushes, with some water flow too, when you depress it. It will add water to the bowl when you lift it up. I'm not sure what set-up you have but maybe others here can be more helpful.

I agree, doesn't sound like a vacu-flush. My last boat had a Jabsco head that fits your description. Rebuild kits and parts are available from West Marine, just flush plenty of fresh water thru and pump it out (a few times) before you start taking it apart.

why is it leaking around the base at the floor?

I really don't have time to fiddle with it before friday...would suck to really cause a problem.

On mine their was a gasket or washer between the china bowl and the base that monted to the deck. This was concealed by a plastic shroud, you will need to remove some parts to see where the leak is coming from. (wear latex gloves)

Sounds like a macerating head; the motor assembly at the back contains a pump for the water with a blade on the shaft as well to break up the poo. As to lack of water, those heads are not supposed to be attached to the fresh water system directly but usually get sea water from their own seacock that is probably closed. As to the leak, if it's leaking out of the base and not the pump assembly, it's likely the o-ring at the base. Just unbolt the bowl and check that first, the seal is right there. If that's not it, there's a joker (duckbill) valve on the waste outlet just behind the base before the pump that's the next place to check. After that you would have to take the pump/macerator assembly apart to find the leak and fix it. Since you ran it dry you should probably plan on re-building it as was said earlier even if you get this leak stopped in the near term.

The leak seems to be right at the rear but at the floor to base sections. It appears to have a black gasket in between.

I was just asking before I tore into it.

My '96 290 has a Jabsco model 37010 electric marine toilet. The motor drives both a cetrifugal impeller for waste removal and a flexible positive displacement impeller for water supply. I usually pull my toilet every 2 - 3 years for inspection and cleaning. It's not a terrible job - flush the toilet a lot and then keep the discharge line high during and after you disconnect it to prevent backflow which would be not good. You probably need service kit 37041-0010. You can get a parts breakdown online. Hope this helps - Bob.
