Lake Lanier Islands 4ht of July event 2011

Ok, so here is my question - this will be my first time on Lake Lanier for 4th of July would it be worth it to bring my sister and her kids to the island to hang out for part of the day and see the fireworks? Now the reason I'm asking is someone mentioned to me that once the fireworks are over it will be about 4hrs till I get back to my dock in Flowery Branch, is this true - my niece and nephew are pretty young and I'm afraid they may be cranky!
