220 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I,M sorry cant really tell you because i just bought the boat and havent played a lot of cds since i installed the jport aux in and a belkin f4u037 bluietooth receiver i play my ipods blackberry and cell phone music wireless so no need for cds anymore ... Could someone check at the back of the speaker located under the wetbar (sink) to see which brand and how many watt are the oem speakers rated

I will repeat my question to everyone that read this thread i would like to know if anybody had any issue with the green light next to the ignition key not opening or if anybody heard about trouble with the fire extinguishing system and my second question is could anybody that have the oem speaker in a 220 sundeck tell me which brand and make and how many watts are the oem speaker rated ... Its easy just look at the rear of the speaker located under the sink

No, I haven't had any problems with the fire extinguisher system. Have you checked the system pressure? If that's OK, try pulling the switch plate and testing for voltage at the bulb. Beyond that, I'd guess that there is a bad pressure switch somewhere. I know this probably won't be acceptable, but you could always just make checking the gauge on the bottle part of your "pre-flight check" and just leave well enough alone.

Your speakers are Clarion and probably will handle 40-50 watts no problem. I'll look when I get home on Friday. Also, I'm the guy that installed the MB-Quart amp and it's pushing at least 50 watts per speaker with no problems what so ever.

Thanks a lot pchansen for your help the thing is that i dont know how to test for pressure in the system and for the bulb voltage test i knew it was the first thing to do but when i tried to pull the plate off the one with the ignition switch i saw that it kooks screwed from the inside so apparently i have to take off all the assembly in the back of the dash in the storage area to have access to this ****in bulb .. So i wonder if anybody ever found another way to take this woodgrain plate off or if anybody had similar issue with that green led not lightin when the ignition switch is on

Also for the speakers at the back of mine its written panasonic and they are rated 160 watts so i was wondering if i had upgraded speakers or if they are oem

Open the engine cover and look to the right. You'll see the bottle. Check the gauge and if it's outside the green you'll need to pull it out, send it in and have it replaced with the new foam...about $150

Thanks for the advice i will look one more time t this gauge on saturday but im quite sure i already did and it was in the green part the first thing to do , i guess would be to look at the bulb to see if there is voltage there so the result would be a defect bulb but i dont know how to take off the fake woodgrain plate and im not sure i want to take off everything thats located in the storage area to gain access from the back

boat is in the water and in the slip :) had a question on the smart craft instrument cluster. my depth finder is showing in Meters when i used to show feet. I think i must have changed the metrics somehow when i tried to disengage the perfect pass.

how do i change the depth from Meters to Feet?

thanks all.

Hey all! I just bought my 03 a couple months ago. Looking forward to the warm weather.

I had a couple questions I was hoping someone might have the answer to. Has anyone replaced their fresh water pump? I'm looking at them, and not sure if I should just get it from sea ray or get an after market bit.

Also, my depth sounder, MPH, and two dome lights are out. The odd thing is, all the fuses and bulbs(dome lights) are all good. Is there a hidden fuse I'm missing?

Thanks, and I hope to see you all on the water!

Jon

Go ahead and pull the rear panel. It's a five minute job. Disconnect the courtesy light by pulling the connector directly above the light. Remove the fire extinguisher and remove the upper screw only on the extinguisher bracket. Rotate the bracket 90 degrees to the 9-3 o'clock position. There are three screws that hold the upper panel in place. Left, middle, and right. They're located along the bottom edge if the panel. The panel will will then come out and expose the back side of the ignition switch and associated switches, including the green status light for the extinguisher system. When replacing the panel, it can be hard finding the original screw holes. I just alingn the panel and use a screw gun to drive the screws back into the lower panel.
Good luck!

Thanks pchansen i will finish to wash down the hull next weekend maybe ill have some time to look at this too but im hoping that the trouble is only the green bulb that is defect ... I wonder if someone ever compared fuel consumption , top speed and cruising speed between the 350 mag and the 5.0 mpi

Looked at the gauge on yhe bottle and its really in the middle between the green and the red part but maybe a little more in the red part ro i will ask my boat shop if they has someone who change these bottle but im asking this question to all 220 owners where is the needle in the gauge of the fire extinguisher bottle in the engine bay

Just found my trouble for the fire extinguishing system was simply that the heat or fire sensor between the bottle and the light in the dash was missing so now im wondering if i should buy one and plug it back or just leave it like this because one of my boat mechanics told me when these bottle burst its not a pleasure to clean the engine bay snd he also told me that its not detecting smoke but heat so if for some reason it becomes really hot it could activate and do a mess ... Did someone ever had problem with that system being activated withou a real need ??

The same mechanic also told me that a 5.7liter 350 mag would be more fuel efficient and would give a lot better performance than my 5.0 mpi so i would like to know if someone ever compated performance top speed and fuel consomption between these 2 engine in the 220 sundeck both with bravo 3 of course ... Would also like to know if someone could tell me brand and power of the oem speaker in a 2004 220 sundeck ( just look under the wetbar its easy to see brand make and power rate behind the speaker located at the right of the little compatment under the sink

"would like to know if someone ever compated performance top speed and fuel consomption between these 2 engine in the 220 sundeck both with bravo 3"

BoatTest.com had some tests of Sundeck 220's with the different engines, and I think the smaller engines actually did better with fuel. If I get a chance I'll dig up the links to the specific tests.
However - as recently mentioned on another thread - the older 220's were longer boats, so it's possible it's not apples to apples - if one was the 23.5' SD220 and the other a 22' SD220 it's not a fair comparison...
(now I have to go back and look!)

My 04 got roughly 3.5 mpg and 7 gph dialed in around 24/25 mph on the Smart craft. On flat water that was pretty easy to keep at that speed, but once you get into swells, chop all that's out the door, I still got about 3.0 mpg and 9 gph at the 30 mph range. We did a lot of long distance trips up and down the intercoastal and I was always happy with the fuel consumption figures. I would agree that my 04 is much heavyer and larger than your 2010 version.

Best regards

Both 23'6" SD220's- one with 300HP one with 320HP. The smaller one does better in MPH at best cruise, and also stays about 3 MPG right through the 30-40 MPH range, while the larger engine dips below 3 MPG much sooner. "your mileage may vary"
Did not find a test with the 260HP.

Oh snap -just noticed the 320HP has a Bravo3, the 300HP has Alpha - so still not "apples to apples" test - and I think B3's are supposed to suck a little more gas.

Anyone had to replace the fresh water filter? I rebuilt the pump, and the filter is so visibly clogged it's amazing the pump wasn't completely shot.

Anyway, it's off of a 2003 SD 220, which came with a shurflo 8050-224-133.
I can't seem to find a filter anywhere. Will any one do the trick?

Well, I just figured I'd clean the filter to see if it was fixable. To my amazement, it's not a filter, but a screen. The housing also comes apart. After soaking it in 10% bleach, it's like brand new. So to anyone that's got a bad pump, it may be worth taking it apart and trying to fix it. I think I saved about $150 for a new pump, and the labor took me only about 2 hours.

still nobody that had time to take a look at power rating and brand of oem speakers ???
