Curious as to what would be considered a fair price to compound and polish an '87 270DA from water line to gunnel and top deck. I have been quoted $400.00. Thanks,

Greg

If they're going at it with a high speed buffer and high quality products, my opinion is it's a very fair estimate.

Sounds fair to me. My marina would charge me about $620.00 for my boat. Just be sure that they will compound it first & then polish it. If you read my threads "Poor waxing job" & "poor waxing job:update" you saw the difference. I have since discovered a little more damage to the stripes and some vinyl upholstery in the cockpit. This is the first time this kind of stuff happened to me so don't let it scare you off. If the guy is reputable have at it I say!!

Check other boats they have done, ask the owners what they think first. That is a fair price IMHO but only if they do quality work. I paid to have mine done for the first time and I am going to redo it myself!

Are you talking compund, polish AND wax? That sounds like a really good price...at least for my area. Someone mentioned $15/ft in a recent post, which would be on par with your estimate.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm going to go ahead and see how he does.

$60.00 in materials, leaves $340.
340/$20 an hour = 17 hours, sounds about right to me .... if the compounding is in a separate step, a cleaner wax and one pass, might be stiff.
