Splash dates??

April 16th if all goes to plan. The ferrys are running at the lake so it has to be ice free by now, although i haven't been up to see for myself.

I see alot of people have or will be putting in soon but none in the actual Great Lakes. Am i jumping the gun putting in mid April?

I flew over the lake yesterday. There was a surprising amount of ice east of Cleveland, and some was flowing in the Detroit River, but the rest of the West end of the lake was clear.

In for a couple weeks now but the river's been so filled with debris and stuff that we haven't been really out. Did switch marinas and moved to a covered slip down river. Looks like its gonna be a lot of fun for the kids as there's a playground, field, nice clubhouse, gated marina etc...and thankfully for my youngest....KIDS!! There's KIDS at this marina. The other place had no children at all.

So, as soon as the crazy weather breaks, as Zac Brown Band says, "Let's get away to where the boat leaves from!! It takes away, all of your big problems!!"

The shipper called today and wanted to move the haul up to the 5th :smt038. Harborside over in Milwaukee said OK so my new splash date is the 6th:smt038:smt038

Splashed this morning! Ice is just barely out of the harbour. Let the games begin!!!

thats great acb4boss we splash the 5th and took the 6th off to for a four day weekend whoo hooo.

Dropped her in the water Last saturday the 16th. 30 MPH out of the SSW and sideways rain but she is in safe and sound. Did almost manage send her to Davey Jones locker but quickly averted that disaster.

Last year i had forgot to open the A/C seacock so this year i wrote a tag and affixed it to my steering wheel so I would not forget. Well I opened the seacock while on the trailer but forgot to close the lid on the on the strainer. After a few tense moments of wondering why highwater alarms are going off and getting the hatch open to see what was going on I found out. Scary lesson learned. But alls well that ends well.

If I lived up here, I think I would splash sometime in July.

Ya'll carry these on your boats?

Every evening after work this week putting on my three coats of wax. Finally got the door fixed $1400.00 later. Getting wet tomorrow.. moving to our new covered slip.. pricelsss !!! The river is a mess from all the rain but my slip is about 3/4 mile upstream from the ramp so it should all be good.. Finally splashing !!!!!!!!

My Splashing was to be Last Saturday (April 16) however the weather was pissy so we elected to hold off.

Also, I had the marina change the impellers in the out-drives last year as part of the winterizing and service the outdirves as well (Paint, gear our, inspection)

This year I fired up the engined and notice the port prop spinning while in neutral. I go to put her in gear and she stalled. Start up again, runs great--prop not spinning now. put her in revers gear and she stalls.

So I called the marina and asked if they they can take a look with the assumption that when their tech put the out-drive on they did it wrong and did not adjust OR since this is the port engine (Counter rotation) the tech may have damaged the gear cable by putting the engine in forward instead of revers and tried pulling the out drive only to stretch and weekend the cable.

Hopefully it is just a quick adjustment and if so, we will splash this weekend. --Also need a new battery, one is not holding a charge.

Finally splashed down:

I Splashed her yesterday at 5:00pm. Crazy, it was a beautifully day--sun shining no wind--and I am driving from work to the marina. I am within 3 miles from marina and the winds pick up, and the fog rolled in. By the time I got to the marina the Bay was nothing but fog and the creek where the marina was had OK visibility, I decided to splash her anyway but was unable and unwilling to take her out for a quick run.

Maybe tonight but definitely on Saturday I will get to open her up.

Finished a full compounding, polishing, waxing routine today and am very pleased with the results. She launched at 5pm and man does it feel good to be back in the water! :smt038

We are tied up at our storage marina, a couple of weeks late due to weather. Now it's so windy we can't bring the boat home and set lines. Gusting to 40 MPH. What a spring. Maybe tomorrow.

Im in ,im out!Damn, after some wireing issues that i had to fix ,and the marina adjusting the new shaft packings i got out on the river around 3pm thursday the 5th.Headed north and went under the first bridge at idol speed ,all was well.waqke zone begins on the n side of bridge so i let her have it,smooth but a little sideways and didnt get a chance to adjust the trim tabs so came off plane and took it slow for the next two miles.Just past wheelers landing another boat came by me then it turned and came by from my aft on plane in a wake zone so i thought i would go at it again in his wake,at about 1800-2000 rpm THUMP ,shut the girls down.increased throttle on port and all was smooth, incrfeased throttle on starboard and at 1000 rpm felt a slight shake ,by 1200 it was much worse, idled the next two miles to my slip and started looking for a diver to pull prop and inspect shaft and strut, not gonna happen.Had the boat pulled saturday across the river and the prop didnt look that bad but the edge on two blades were a little wobbly so i suspect at least one is twisted pretty good. The marina will check the shaft with a guage on monday and we will see what the repairs will be and decide to call insurance co at that time .I am as always hopeing for the best but if not the insurance will pick up after 1000.00. Please be carefull this spring the log i hit was submerged in a channel that was 29 ft deep and not visible, possibly sucked up by the boat i was in the wake of .This is all due to flooding we havent had for 6 years or so so a lot of debris that has been lying around it breaking free and making for dangerous boating conditions.Glen

Update ,no shaft damage. Both props are on thier way to john smith in clay mi.I cannot belive the log actually knocked the starboard motor out of alignment,i just had them done last spring oh well.seeing as its partially apart i am having the cutlass bearings replaced ,they said they would have lasted one mabey two more years so what the hell go ahead .also the shaft tube on the port side has lateral cracks in it the marina hasnt seen these on a searay before and the tube was filled in at the juncture with the bottom with polyester resin instead of epoxy. They quoted 10 hrs to repair this tube, possibly less,i guess i dont have a choice on that one.The log damage will run about 1300 with the cutlass bearing so i am thinking of calling my insurance co even though i have a 1000.00 deductible i think even saving 300 would be nice at this point. She wont be ready this weekend but next for sure so i will be working the 12 hr days to pay for this and still stay on budget for gas etc. this summer.Glen
