Sea Ray SSS 1993 63 ft

I notice in the pics from '07, '08, '09 there are no registration #s or name, home port on the boat. I'm wondering when/how the boat was last used and about it's maintenance. Maybe the name was photo shopped for privacy.

I'm definitely not experienced with ships this large, but am used to working with others to get things done. I would partner with a facility that can handle all of your needs at one site and explain the total scope of work you're wanting to complete, your timeline/situation, and your budget. They may prioritize you based on the amount of work you're asking them to complete along with your time constraints.

Beautiful vessel. Best of luck!

Well the saga continues!
Got a call this morning from my broker that the yacht had to be moved immediately! The listing broker kept telling me dont worry i will take care of it so it can stay where it is. Well that was not the case, the former owner had a 90fter coming in today and it had to go. So hired a captain real quick and moved it exactly to the other side of the canal to a dock attached to a hotel called Pier 66 here in Florida. Fancy place have shore hookups, internet etc... so have people on the boat now getting the AC water pump working and moving onboard tomorrow for the remainder of my stay. better this way as I can get all of the work done i need there.
SO i was walking down the dock to the office to pay the fees for the week feeling good about my new big yacht, on each side of me 86 -120 ft yachts, all of a sudden i felt like i owned a dinghy lol The most amazing boats you have ever seen all docked there!! I will go out and take pictures for you guys! You wont believe the boats that are on this dock! Pretty nice place bikini clad girls sunbathing on sunpads everywhere, lots of sea rays including a 630 like i was going to get, so happens the captain i got takes care of it so i got a tour... will be a fun 9 days! See if i cant find myself a millionaire girl to marry hahaha
So now getting to work on all the diff vendors i need to get the different things fixed, the captain is also a mechanic and helping me fix some of the systems or at least test and diagnose them. So its all working out, was a bit of a scramble but now instead of staying in a hotel will be living onboard will be good fun!

The captain was telling me how well i could do with charters if i kept it here in Ft.lauderdale almost made me want to cancel the shipping and move back here.. He charters that 63 several days a week and they do great with it.

Cod: Thanks for the suggestion, i did look into the place you suggested, may still go there... did not have much time how everything went down so just moved it quickly for now but I am not locked in to where i am so we will see what happens.. I will take all of your suggestions and have everything you mentioned done!! Thank you for that! The USCG certified captain that is helping me with everything also said something about the impellers. We figured the AC only has a bad water pump which is easy to fix.... also the fresh water pump for the boat is bad so working on that too ...tons of little things but will get it all done... there is a boat lettering place on the street its docked on tons of marine things there gotta decide on that name and get it put on!

Douglee: Working on the fuel issue right now, will have people out there tomorrow to get on it, i think there is a problem with my fuel guages the port tank says empty but the starboard tank says full ...the owner filled the boat with fuel for me so there is 800 gallons, i think that is the capacity of fuel onboard... that is a lot of money in fuel .... finding out now from the shipping company if i can even keep it or maybe pump it out and sell it somewhere ...just dunno have to find out tomorrow when the fuel people get there.

It is a TNT swim platform, that company is based here in Ft.lauderdale will probably try and get them to come out to to the boat and give me an estimate. Apparently it was welded up because he just didnt want to be bothered with it.

Woody: the yacht has no name on the back or any numbers...it has a name on paper which i wont say for the past owners privacy. DUnno what the story behind that is, he is a super great guy was talking to him today he takes me over to a zuma scooter in great shape and says do you like these things, you know there is a system to take it on the boat with you. So i asked him is it for sale in that case hes like nah ill give it to you. SO he just threw in a Zuma scooter for me really cool. HAs some sort of system to take it with you on the back deck. While playing around on board i found out there is a really big storage compartment under the master bed with a safe in it and a giant bose sub woofer. The more i look around the more things i find on it! there is quite a lot of storage onboard!
What an adventure this all is! The boat was very well maintained, it honestly looks like in almost new condition in some ways. Every single conceivable manual for every system was kept in a big Sea Ray bag. It was run regularly just was hardly used at all the former owner told me, he said its hardly been used.... i guess thats why the engines are in such good shape... All the seat cushions on the back deck are pretty much brand new... just in amazing shape once i get all these little maintenance issues sorted it will be an amazing boat.
I mean this whole thing i have gone through to get this boat is worthy of a book, what a crazy experience, great in some ways bad in others i know one thing for sure im just exhausted and will need a vacation when i get home! No wonder half of you think im making this stuff up!
This kind of crap only happens to me, nothing is ever smooth, if you guys heard half of the stories of things i have experienced and done you would all say no way! My last girlfriend told me after we were together for a bit that initially she thought i was totally full of **** and lieing my butt off when we first started talking so dont worry im used to it lol

I look forward to each and every update you post. You just can't make this stuff up. I admire your perseverance.

Big Island Lifer: Hopefully i dont have many more dramatic updates and just report on things getting fixed and me having fun at Pier 66 ... will definately document the loading and offloading onto the cargo ship for you guys, I am sure that will be an interesting process. I really did not have much choice but to perservere, the trip was already quite an expense so i had to continue or walk home with empty hands and a loss with my head down feeling stupid!
One of the things i have always remembered from my childhood, I was 8 years old and camping with my father in Connecticut. I wanted to chop down a tree with an axe he had, he said ok but if you start it you cant stop until you finish, you always finish what you start. Well i remember suffering so bad to chop that giant tree down, bleeding hands the works...took me days and days but i chopped that tree down.. I guess that lesson stuck! When i make up my mind i am going to do something i just keep going till its done no matter what it takes!

Good luck with this. Too many things to do and so little time. I don't know about parts availability where you are going, but, if difficult or expensive, you may want to consider spending the next month getting the boat repaired in the U.S. of A. and taking the next ship overseas.

Buying a boat is not supposed to be this difficult. I do admire you preserverance.

Well sitting here in the master bedroom of my new yacht, bose stero sound going super cool lighting, boat gently rocking... now its starting to sink in this is really mine!! Moved onboard today... had a hectic day getting parts installed two new fresh water pumps ...yes have water!! fixed auto pilot and depth finder check! Yanked out salt water pump for AC, got a new one will install tomorrrow! Fixed minor lighting issues..... receieved my new zuma scooter and the mounts to hold it on the back deck....figured out problem with master head vacuum pump... everything is coming together...got the glendining cable master working ...diver coming tomorrow to clean bottom ...not much junk at all there, whole bottom was just repainted a few months back..... Damn this boat is nice, well worth all the craziness money and hassle i swear i dont want to leave now that im living onboard! This is definately the life i want living on the water!! Until now it just felt like a ton of hassle and a ton of money... finally i feel excited and happy ....yeeeehaw!

I think the name of your new yacht should be FINALLY. Best of luck with her and enjoy!

Yes happy posts from now on im thrilled beyond what i can explain!!

So why would anyone buy a house when you can get one of these for the same price lol, im never living on land again!!! need fishing rod asap, want to catch dinner hahaha

Any Florida CSR people that would like to come over for a couple of beers whatever just let me know, would be cool to meet some people from the community, im docked at Pier 66 come over have a drink! :smt038:smt038

This should be a serious consideration for you at this point. Although it may seem expensive at first, i would bet the savings and convenience of having the boat serviced and MADE READY (including another extended stay) here in the U.S. before you ship it to AU. would far out weigh your overall cost abroad. Once again congrats, best of luck and glad to hear your upbeat attitude.

on the TNT lift... the only reason someone would weld it up is because it needs work done. on the older TNT lifts, the hydraulic cylinders are made to order. Read months... it probably has 6 cylinders at $800 a pop. then you have the pump and hoses. If the system is shot, you're talking a pretty penny to get this working. personally I would look at something like the St Croix system and retro fit it.

Hi Rszarka,

been away this easter with the family therefor have not been on line..Glad you missed me..

All you will need is a copy of your bill of sale..Your shipping company will ask for a copy anyway. You will also be require to provide a copy to
your logistics guys who will require payment in full for the Australian government (GST) about a week before the ship docks

don't provide anymore invoices such as repairs, other purchases for the boat etc as this will add to your gst bill

I think your priority will be to make sure your engines and fuel are in top condition..You don't want issues trying to get to the ship and you don't want them once they
drop the boat in AU..

HI Ozzie, good to have ya back!!!, the engines run great...having all the impellers changed, fuel treated, filters changed etc!! So not to worried about that part.

Having sme major problems i could really use you guys help, florida is a bloody oven i was so hot today i felt sick, we can not find the main breakers for the air conditioning!! Its crazy it is not where it is supposed to be and cant find a breaker box for it anywhere i have searched the entire yacht...every hatch every panel...everything!!!

have a new sea water pump and installed it but when we hit the power switch it did not run, so we hooked up a voltmeter to the incoming wires its getiing around 70 - 80 volts less than what it should, so our guess is a burned out fuse or tripped breaker dunno!! I mean what could cause an electrical line to have less power than it should ... supposed to have 220 and its getting just over 160... we are so stumped on this and i am waiting on a marine electrician on monday as there are multiple electrical issues to be solved, all small but many of them... dont want to go through another whole day of heat!!! Anyone know where that breaker might be on a 1999 540 da because its not where the documents say it should be or have any ideas how to find and fix this problem?? Should of bought the boat in winter hahha

Pretty exhausted spent the entire day just cleaning every single connection and applying that wire grease stuff,,, wire brushing then cleaning and rust proof painting every single bit of rust i can find in engine room .... would be way easier if florida was not so damned hot, thoroughly cleaning the enitire boat, want it to be spotless in every single way ...dont worry got the right paint thats heat proof etc... Boat Owners Warehouse know me on a first name basis by now...have been going there 20 x a day since i moved onboard... always need a nother part! this lightbulb, that motor, this actuator.... lol a never ending stream of little things.

I am surprised at ow much storage room there is on this thing, between little hatches and storage areas under seating, even the master bed flips up to reveal a huge storage area and safe.... there is zero cluter on the boat as there is just so much room to put things away!

all of this is way worth it though as the boat is amazing, i am never moving off of this thing living on the water is the life, so peaceful, love the movement and sounds of the water.... just the most amazing conceivable way to live!!

Theres a 2011 53 Azimut fly bridge in the next slip, met the captain today he let me go onboard and check it out...wow those things are nice, love the design and how they have it all laid out just gorgeous!! They really did a nice job of that boat, no wonder they are all over a million.... the only part that was kind of crap...feel sorry for any captain that has to live in that crews quarters ..bed bunk shower everything in one like the size of a locker geez.... they managed to squeeze 3 bedrooms and a captains quarters on a 53 lol... the maste bedroom is super nice!! but according to the cptain its brand new but has sooooo many little problems he said yeah cosmetically its nice but he would much rather have a sea ray as they work properly lol

Thanks guys, hopefuly you have some ideas!

Rob, the fact that you are getting power to where you measured means that it is not a fuse problem as such. The only thing that will cause a votlage drop is a high resistance in a wire joint. Now this could be a rusty fuse holder or a poor wire connection. You will have to trace the wiring back to where the power comes good then you can isolate the faulty joint. My guess would be at the back of the breaker panel. Every boat I have seen that has a generator and aircon have the breakers and switches on the main breaker panel. There isn't a switch for the AC on the main bridge panel is there?

Does it make a difference if you run from generator power rather than running from shore power?

Cheers

Paul

Rob,

Are you sure you are getting good power from the dock? Did you try running the generator to see if its the same volt reading?

Hey Rob, I remember that you said this boat had an ATLAS power control system fitted to it. Now I am not familiar with the workings of this system but is it possible that someone has being playing with it and set it to the wrong input voltage?

Thank you all so much for the ideas to try, in the boat parts list it shows an AC main breaker panel back in the engine room behind the Glendining CBM .... but it is not there, then on the AC diagram it shows a breaker panel in the accesory room that holds the air compressors...weird 2 conflicting locations in the paperwork for the same boat..... then i figured out the parts list book i was looking at is for a 98 540da .... so its supposed to be in the accesory room but is not there.... have traced the wiring back to the main breaker panel, so going to open that up and find out what is going on!
Paul I am not connected through the Atlas system here just regular shore power as I dont need it here in the States, i have two seperate sets of wirings, i can either run power through the atlas or just the original shorepower system. I am getting power to the boat because all the other 240 v systems are running fine, its just this AC pump which is not getting enough voltage! There is no breaker for the AC on the bridge.
Figures the one system I really needed to live on this thing in Florida is the one i cant get to work lol I swear this has to be the hottest place on earth lol
I have to go out and take pictures of all the yachts here for you guys, its a boat lovers paradise all kinds of yachts ranging from 40 ft up to 160! Will do it later on today and post pics! Tons of searays including a 63 like I was going to buy! There is one of the new 2011 540 DAs as well damn they made the new ones nice what a boat! I am slowly but surely becoming a yacht fanatic, will probably sell this one in like 6 months and come back for another! Or i dunno, really like this lol Really dont need anything bigger than this as im not married or dont have kids this is actually more room than i need!
I am cleaning all the wire connections with a wire brush and coating them in dielectric grease, that is the right thing to do right? Sanding down every single bit of rust i can find in the engine room and then cleaning it with alcohol then painting it with this special rust protection thats also heat resistant...
Now i see what those guys meant that earlier said they could tell this was not a fresh water kept vessel... finding a bit of corrosion...has been in the salt a few years not too long. I will keep on top of this thing like mad and get anything that starts to corrode right away, will have it looking like a fresh water engine in no time!

So another question about the shipping, when i put this on the ship I want to power down every single thing right? Nothing should be left on as it will not be connected to power so the batteries wont be charging anyways. I never got an answer about the Bimini top, does anyone know if i should have the full top up or take it all down? I know the winds can get pretty insane out on the Pacific! I crossed the Atlantic once, sailed from St.Thomas to tennerife.... was like 16 ft swells the whole way...just about everyone was throwing up in buckets but me lol Funny i remember people at the slots gambling while throwing up into those coin buckets hahah pretty crazy...well i went up on top deck one time right out in the middle of the ocean and the wind was so strong out there that I could not breathe! I could not get air into my lungs it was moving by so fast, was really nuts... So yeah do i run the chance of a shredded Bimini if i leave it up, i mean what kind of winds are those designed to withstand?
Have been seeing a lot of tarpon jumping around here! you will see the water boil several times a day with all the baitfish trying to get away from something hungry hahha so I got a rod and tackle, bait will try my luck tonight while having some beer and a barbecue lol I was dying for this trip to end until i moved onboard now i hate each day that passes as im just loving this!
Have found a 13 ft tender, has 70 hp motor on the back with center console, only thing is this lift is broken and i am not getting it fixed right now. How else could i get this tender up and down on the swim platform as there is no davit on this one like the 63 had.. In Turtlesboats sig it looks like he has an awesome system for doing it without a davit!!! Any chance you would send me a diagram how to make a system like that temporarily until i get this hydraulic system fixed... Apparently the TNT lift is only 2 years old but has never been operable, i dunno maybe i should just get TNT out here to check it out its like 300 bucks for them just to look at it and im guessing there is something majorly wrong with his since it has never worked... i swear i have been giving out money like its candy on Halloween! SO trying to keep my expenses down!
I did something really really stupid! Have been quite flustered lately and have had so much on my mind trying to get everything done, rushing around like crazy! Well i have a money belt with 9 K cash Australian in it that I was going to change to USD but just taking it back with me instead. Well when i left the hotel room 2 days ago i left it where it was hidden under the mattress inbetween the boxspring and top mattress!!! This morning i woke up and looked on the net at the exchange rates and it dawned on me where was that cash...then i realized holy crap i left it at the hotel!!! Well i got lucky it was still there! Some one else had already stayed in the room, the bed had been changed several times, i mean how absolutely careless and stupid was that of me, so i realized thats it need to slow down a bit take my time and be way more careful!! Want to just punch myself for being so incredibly careless!!
I have been on the go solid since i got here, so i think i am going to just take today off, go to the pool, do some fishing at night and just try and relax a bit and catch myself before i do something really stupid!! well already have but at least i got it back... The look on the maids face when she realized there was a pouch full of cash there that whole time lol
I like writing here to you guys, dunno makes me feel connected as i have spent most of my time here alone. So will get those pics for you guys today and upload them tonight, the net is kinda shabby here at the dock but will do the job!

THanks again everyone for all the ideas to try, will get to them tomorrow! Shame there is no Florida folk that would like to come on the boat for a visit would be nice to have some company!
