220 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

The lube change is easy. I just do not know how to align the motor and adjust the gimble bearing. Also, greasing the joints is not an easy job on our boats.

Changing the drive oil is not that hard and neither is checking it. DIY will save you a few bucks.

I get mine changed each year with the annual service and it stays pretty clear.

Best regards

Nore do I, but if I thought the lube oil was getting burnit, I would change it out, run again and change again to see what was happening. Bottle of lube oil is cheaper than a new drive.

I totally agree. Changing the lube is about an hour job (and 3 beers....LOL)

My mods include:
LED lights- some of them
2nd battery

thinking bout doing/questions bout
Charger
Cooler mod= whats this mod? do u got pics?
Smart tabs=why would u put these on?
VHF marine radio=were u mount?
Subwoffer=were u put it at?
Bimini enclosure=with the plastic glass?

The charger allows us to hook-up to shore power and heeps the batteries charged during winter storage.

Cooler mod = moving the hinges from the back to the side, allowing one to open the cooler easier while stowed

Smart tabs = improved handling/ride/plane

VHF Radio = mounted under the captain's cubby hole and the antena is mounted to the bimini top

Subwoofer = cut a hole under the aft bench (port side) where you stow the life jackets

Bimini enclosure - isinglass panels that will keep you dry when it rains :)

Hi, I am new to this site as I am in the process of buying my first Sea Ray. I am buying a 2005 220 Sundeck, I love the way this boat looks and have heard nothing but great things about it! I cant wait to get this thing on the water! The one I am buying does not have bow filler cushions, does anyone know where the best place to buy these would be. I am getting the 5.0 BIII, should I consider smart tabs? Do they make a big difference? Any other mods that anyone recommends?? Thanks!

Tabs YES I would go with the Bennett Tabs because you dont want them down 100% of the time. They are a little more but WELL worth it. 5.0 NICE!! You will be very happy with it.

Smart tabs are a nice add, but if you have a B3 I don't personally see the use, it does the work with out the tabs. I know a guy who was on the old sea ray owners board who did Bennett tabs on a 220 and they turned out really nice. A couple of people have put the smart tabs on and have been satisfied with them. However good load management does just as good, remember your the Captain and you can tell people where they need to sit and stay seated during movement.

Best regards

Picked up my 2006 220 Sundeck Mag350 B3 Last week. Unfortunately its nearing the end of season down here in Australia (good news for you yanks i suppose as it means your is nearing!)

pretty happy with it, although it appears the fresh water pump is dead, i have sourced a Shureflo Aqua king here for $150 so ill change it out and see what happens!
It already has dual batterys, but i'm going to add the Blue Sea battery isolator relay to it so both batteries get charged.

Quick question - what do people reccomend to clean the vinyl seats with?

Also ill add the latch to the stern seat/engine cover as that is already starting to annoy me!
Any other reccomendations?

could you send picture of your mods : grill, charger, subwoofer, cooler, les lights , etc..

Could daredevil and surfinjoe and any other people that did mods into their 220 post some pics so that i could help me choose which one should i do first on mine... Thanks a lot

I will post some pic's as soon as it warms up. Right now, my boat is covered and winterized. I plan on unwrapping her in the next 1-2 weeks.

Perfect i wil wait for your pics and would also like to know if someone has ever tried to sleep in a 220 ... If yes how did they set up their mattress

I have fallen asleep in the back lounger with my feet propped up. But I don't think you are going to have very much room for a air mattress in the cockpit area.
