Moved up to a 290 Sundancer. Please advise the newbie.

OK all. I visited the boat yesterday and have a couple of more questions/comments.

First, sadly, nothing in my secret headboard compartment. :smt009

Second... is the piece on the windlass that guides or holds the rope/chain against the windlass spring-loaded? Mine was broken before. Now the dealer has fixed it, but it is loose. It seems like it would be spring mounted to keep it tensioned. Am I wrong?

Isn't there an inverter? There is a generator issue that they are fixing, so I couldn't test it. But I couldn't use ANY AC equipment while I was out. Is there a breaker or something that may have been off? If so, is it on the main DC breaker panel by the battery switches?

Thanks all. I am uploading pictures so that I can post them a little later. Stay tuned!

Mine is spring loaded. My manual calls it a pressure lever.

Probably no inverter unless added by the previous owner... I don't think SR ever put them on.

Saw my boat today. No left behind treasure in the newly found secret compartment either.

Mine is spring loaded too. Not a whole lot of pressure but enough to keep the rode from poppoing off should there be any slack.

No inverter on mine either. Would be nice if you could use AC power occassionally without having to start the generator.

That sounds crazy. I can't use my AC devices unless I am at the dock or running the genny?

Are inverters standard on non-Genny 290s (I don't know why anyone would have a cruiser without a genny, BTW)?

Visited the boat last Saturday. I found my secret compartment empty. I did take some new pics though. These are still pre-detailed pics, but I think she looks great since the hull repairs (dock rash) has been repaired and the entire hull polished. Enjoy!

Matt, she looks great. Does your port side outdrive have a chunk missing out of the skeg?

Little hint store the boat with the drives down, it puts less stress on the bellows. Very nice boat. I know good times will be had by all!!!!!

Unfortunately, yes. There is no one around the selling dealership that will repair it. They are giving me SS skeg guards-installed because of it. I wish they had a welder to fix it, but they don't.

Thanks. I do know that, but they have to be up for lifting out of the water on the forks. This was just after our cruise and they picked it up to put it on the service rack for the punch list items and detail. I don't know about transport requirements (up or down). I would imagine they need to be up for that too. They were down while it was stored in the water and they'll be down once I get it and splash it again. March 1st sure is taking a long time to get here. :smt089

Thank you. Unfortunately, no. Due to communications issues (there is a post on here about it), delivery has been postponed until this Monday, the 7th. Still waiting... :smt013

Ahh soon then.

I leave mine in the water through the winter here. So it is just a matter of good enough weather to de-winterize her. I was thinking this weekend, but it has dropped below freezing most nights this week. My un-official rule of thumb is a straight week of not doing that AND be after March 1 :)

I have a boatsafe heater I keep running throughout March and most of April "just in case" I usually try to make my first cruise of the season during the Cherry Blossom festival. Few boats are out and it is a nice quiet way to start a season.

Good Luck and welcome to the 290 family !!

Thanks. We can't wait until we can enjoy it. We bought it on January 18th and are waiting for delivery now. We had to get the punch list items done, get some accessories installed, and wait for the freezing up here to stop. (Hopefully, it has stopped dropping below freezing for the year. :wow:)

Did you buy at Kowaliga on Lake Martin? Was Chris you salesperson?

Great looking boat !

Congrats!!

Yes and yes. I highly recommend Chris and Kowaliga. I am ~300 miles away but they treated me like I could come in and complain if need be. They bent over backwards to make my buying experience as easy as possible. I can't thank them enough!

I've bought 3 boats from him in the last 4 years. He's a good guy. One of them was a 2006 290 Sundancer which I traded the next year for my 310 I have now. He sold my 290 to a guy in Turkey of all places!

4. C70 - Where can I buy the navionics cards (West Marine, iboats, etc.)?

I found mine on eBay for a great price. Keep hunting around....

I was going to, but I got one in the deal. Thanks for the advice, though. I do appreciate it!
