Generator for a sundancer 240

Isn't there a portable unit that fits nicely on the swim platform!:grin::grin: I prefer goobers & raisinettes.

I don't believe it makes much sense on a boat that size... Why not install an inverter?

I had an inverter on my 260. It ran the a/c quite well.

Near as I can tell the '02 240 did not have a generator (or A/C) option. So there wont be a place to put one?

I had 4 golf cart batteries and I could get as long as 6 hours on the boat - before - I would have it set to shut down. During the night it could run all night. Mine was deicated to only run the A/C.

It's probably not cost effective and there's probably not enough space in the engine room. If you are looking for longer battery life you should consider adding another battery and switching to deep cycle batteries.

FYI - don't bring up portable generators. They are not highly regarded by most people and this thread will get off topic really fast.

There is a member here (papogator) that has an '07 240 with a westerbeke mpv - seems to fit and work fine - to get an idea of the cost read presentation's thread (different boat, same gen)

I had a generator installed when I bought the boat. It was a 9k option. I do have the same generator for sale as I had the insurance replace it. My boat suffered a stress fracture on the hull and the bilge was flooded. The replaced the generator to be on the safe side. Even after the draining the water, the generator ran as normal so I have it at my father's shop for sale.

In order to fit in the 240, the generator replaced the vaccuflush option. After 3 years, I am loving the generator. Because of the intense heat we get in Miami year round, it has been used many times. Plus it helps me run the stereo system and keep the batteries charged.

I know in my 2010 240 Sundancer there is no more room in the engine compartment for a generator. We already have a hot water heater and holding tank taking up most of the free space.

We only the the AC/Heat when on shore power.

Popogators post 2 above yours I believe explained this.

I assume that the holding tank is no longer there in his boat.

It is possible that a 3K would fit where the VacuFlush pump and its small preliminary tank is. On my 270, it occupied the starboard front corner. I then would assume a sea water manual/electric toilet would be required.
