Hi all,

After a lot of consideration between different manufactures and models I have finally found model that I think will fit our family (2 adult and 3 kids under 2 years) and my wallet :).

I am mostly interested of the 270 sundancer between 1998 - 2001.

But my question is regarding the wider version of the sundancer where a dinette is included. On photos, it looks like if the V-Berth is really small?? Is it enough space in the V-Berth for two adults? I guess it is, but I just need to make sure! :)

Thx in advance,

I believe the older versions are a little bigger than the current 270's, so maybe its big enough:huh: but im not that sure..
good luck in your search anyway.....

Their are different beams (which may allow for a slightly larger berth) within the years you mention. Either way, in my opinion its bigger than it looks. However...

I think you need to physically board the boats and "feel" for yourself. I think a bigger concern would be..How tall are you, How often do you plan on sleeping here & the 3 kids...you gonna line them up in the mid cabin & hope they stay there? Quietly?

I have a 1990 270 DA. My girlfriend and I sleep comfortably in the v-berth (both are 5'7"). One reason we got this model is we can leave the table set up and still have the aft cabin. It would easily accomindate three small kids. Although the beam is 9'6" I trailer it.

My wife and I cannot both sleep in the V berth comfortably. I cannot sleep in the V berth by myself comfortably. I am 6 feet tall. My preferred sleeping area is in the aft sleeping area. It stretches the entire width of the boat.

If I ever get a bigger boat a bigger bed will be the main reason.

I have the 98 250da and I am 6ft and can only stand up if I take my shoes off. The starboard side is longer for sleeping. The early Sun / Heat would walk me rather then the bed. until I bought my Portable AC unit. ( keep that in the mid birth and duct it to the outside though window.
The Cabinet gets in the way on the Port side, okay for the wife.
The Wife will not use the mid- birth ( too closed in)
The problem I have is using the bathroom I have to "pee" from outside the Bathroom door, but my hay my aim has gotten better :)

My wife and I sleep in the v-berth. The 13 & 10 year old sleep in the mid-cabin and the 8 year old sleeps on the dinette. We all fit but... I would love a bigger boat!

Hi all and thank you for your answers!!

Wow, looking at boats really consumes a lot of my time, I search the Swedish version of Craigs List several times each day  . I guess you all been here, it is an exciting time searching for the perfect boat  .

But it is really hard, I really like 270DA with 9'2 Beam, but I now learn from several sources that the V-birth is to small for me... :/.

My "must have" so far are,
- A windshield that can be opened
- Social area where at least four adults can have dinner both inside the cabin or outside...
- A lot of storage
- Room for four adults

My "nice to have" are,
- Side deck
- Single engine (Due to gasoline price in Sweden, which is currently $5.7456 per gallon..).

On another community I was recommended to look at 250DA that seems to have all of my mentioned "must and nice to have"?? Is this a recommendation you can confirm?

And how big difference is it in size between 270DA -00 and 280DA -01? Would it be worth to go up to 280DA? Is it enough room in the V-birth for adults?

Thx in advance for your patient with all of my questions!

A couple of years ago, I looked HARD at the 98-01 270. The small sleeping spaces kept me from buying the boat.

My wife & I laid in the V-berth and the aft cabin of that 270 on several occasions. The V-berth is just too small for 2 avg size adults.

The aft cabin berth is plenty long, but the width is tight for 2 adults due to the cabin entry stairwell intruding badly into the berth space.

The dinette converted to a bed is for kids only. Its not even 5 feet long.

The 280 V-berth is certainly not huge, but is much better than the one on the 270. Also, I think the 280 aft cabin width is better and the stairwell is not a problem like it is on the 270.

If you don't have to have a separate dinette, get a 260. The V-berth and aft cabin are great on the 260. If you want the separate dinette, jump up to the 280.

Jison,
As you can see everyone, including you, has thier own definition of space & how much is enough. I am going to suggest that you & your wife begin to actually board some boats to get the feel for how much space you'll need.

I have the 1998 250 DA. In my opinion, 4 adults may be fine for a day on the water & even a meal once back in the slip. But at bedtime........"2 of ya'll are goin' home."

Aft cabin measures: 49" Wide x 80" Long

V Berth: at the forward center v to end when table insert & pad it measures 71" (another words front to back)
Width in front 60" Diagonally 88"

Settee set up as bed: 60"

Hope this helps

If you're not trailering, you also might want to consider the 99-01 290. The V-berth is larger than on the 270. No opening windshield on the 290, though. The 02-? 280 would be a good choice also if you're budget allows, and it has the opening windshield.

It's a shame Sea Ray didn't keep the layout of the 1990/270 or 1993/290. To me, they have the best cabin for a boat under 30ft. The beam is only 9'...not 9' 6". I'm 6' 1" and fit perfect in the V Berth. A walk through windshield really messes up the aft cabin....makes it into a cave in my opinion. I like sleeping in the aft cabin also....I like the open feeling you get with the walkaround deck. My wife and I have not fallen it the water yet! The 280 is a twin engine only boat I believe and a 11ft beam but very nice. If I go to a twin...the 1990 310 would be nice, Mike.
