Can anyone tell me what the fluid reservoir inside the engine house, mounted dead center on the transom is part of? The reservoir is clear liter container. Looks like a nalgene bottle. Also, if identified, what fluid does this use. The system is in need of fluid and I just a soon not run the boat until I get the level up.

Thanks,

You are probably describing your outdrive fluid reservoir. Does it have a rubber hose running from the bottom of it to the transom? It takes Merc high performance gear lube. If it is empy, you should be getting an audible alarm at the helm.

Could be for the trim tabs... if so it would have a pump near by. On my 99, the out drive reservoir was mounted on the motor, port side near the front.

Thanks for the replies. I'm with you Quint4. Hose comes off the bottom. I'll confirm the route of the hose. I'll have to crawl down in there deeper. The reservoir is not empty, just about 2 inches below the fill mark. Hey JimG, I have my trim tab system figured out. I appreciate the response to what might have been a dumb question. I've been an outboard runner since the beginning. This is a whole new world for me. Lots to learn.
