Hello,

I haven't taken out my boat lately since the boat was being repaired from a stress fracture. Once I got it back, I haven't used it because I am in school doing my masters, however, I have been running the engine every sunday to ensure it's in working condition. Well, today, after starting the engine, about 3-5 minutes of running, smoke started to come out and I turned off the engine as soon as I smelled the smoke. Please remember that I am hearing impaired so I would have no way of knowing if there were any noises being made. After the smoke dissipated, I tried to restart the engine so I could pinpoint exactly where it came from, the engine would not crank. I still have power with 12.4V on both of my batteries.

I have already checked off the alternator because the belts were spinning.

What can I look for first?

Were you running the engine in the water or on the trailer? Where was the smoke coming from? Have you checked your engine oil level?

Larry

On the trailer, I have it hooked up with the hose. Marine Max replaced every electrical components last month when my bilge was flooded with water from the stress fracture.

Oil level is normal.

Where was the smoke coming from; exhaust or engine compartment? Did the smoke have an electrical smell or an oil smell? When you try to crank the engine is the only thing happening the sound of a click? Is your throttle/gear selector in neutral when you try to restart?

Larry

smoke was coming from engine compartment. I don't think it was an electrical smell. I believe it smells more like oil burning.

I am hearing impaired so I wouldnt know if there's a click and yes the gear is in neutral when i tried to restart. Nothing cranks. I am starting to believe that it could be the starter maybe?

I took the boat to MM. It was repaired under my extended warranty. The cause was the starter and starter fuse went bad as well as the ignition switch. I just got my boat back today and everything is working flawlessly!

Thank you MM!
