I just bought a used 310DA with a C-80 and am a little confused as to which chart I should buy. I believe the C-80 won't work with the new Navionics platinum plus cards, but there appears to be only 1 current card that will work , the 1xg that covers all US. Is this my only choice?

Thank you for any help.

Actually, I accidentally found out that the C-80 WILL work with the Navionics Platinum cards. I mis-read their compatibility chart and bought one. When I tried to use it, it wouldn't work (I was on version 2.12 of the C-80 firmware), so I starting doing some research. Turns out that the latest software for that display is 4.39.something, so I upgraded the display and voila, the charts now display on the C-80. Now, as to whether I'm able to use ALL of the features of the Platinum card or not, I don't yet know because I haven't had the boat long enough to get really familiar with the C-80.

Technically speaking, you should use the Gold series charts, though.

I found that if you stopped by or called Martek on Kent Island they were very helpful. I was contemplating the purchase of a used boat and took the unit there for evaluation. They checked it out ; gave me the info I needed [ all fine and up to date ] and only accepted my gratitude. I would use them without hesitation.

You may already know this from the RM site, but you have to use an CF card < 256MB...I had to order a 32MB card to do the upgrade...I have all these 4 and 8 GB cards I use for photography, but the C-80 can't handle them.

@jack - I did talk to them Friday and they were the only ones with the 1xg chip, with that recommendation I will definitely use them.

@mddickens - no I didn't! Thank you for the heads up (I too have a 1 GB card for photography I was going to use).

I love this site - thanks to everyone for the help.

RM has some very specific instructions on how to do the upgrade. If you haven't read them, I'd recommend that. The good news is that if you follow the directions, the upgrade works smoothly.

I dug out an old 32MB card and everything went without a hitch.

I have the Chesapeake PP card on order from Martek - nice guy and very helpful.

Thanks again.

Not necessarily so. I put the firmware update on a 2 gig Sandisk CF card and had no problems with my C80 accepting it.
