Morning All,
It's beeen a gremlin month, with the A/C taking a ****, and having to replace it. Upon replacement I plugged into our measly grid at the boat club and got the unit to run, but we only have 10amp breakers, and aren't supposed to run A/C on the grid. So I fired up the Westy 5K and it was sputtering to get warm.... Put a meter on it and it was hovering around 60-70 volts. Went to the genny compartment and nudged the throttle linkage thats connected to the actuater (I think) The genny then got "up to speed" and I looked at the meter and was pumping 157 volts... not good. Gave the throttle linkage a twist back and got it to run steady at 119-121 volts. Turned the A/C back on and it went down to 90 volts and it would not "rev" back up to make up for the load.
Downloaded the manual, and read enough to know I'm more likely to FUBAR something than fix it, so I'm going to cross my fingers, and hope I can find a reliable/honest Westerbeke tech in the Ft Lauderdale area.
FWIW I repaced the plugs with new ones from my spare kit. It seemed to help at first, but now I'm out of my league with gain controls and internal adjustments. This is my first boat with a genny, and for the life of me didn't know that there wasn't an outgoing voltage regulator on them.... I also thought turkeys could fly...
Any suggestions on a tech that won't pretend I have a 100' yacht and an overstuffed billfold?
Thanks
John
