I am new to this forum and new to Sea Ray. I just bought a 2001 340 Amberjack and absolutely love the boat. I have been all over this boat but one question I still have is about the hinged mirror in the head. Why is it hinged since there is nothing behind it?

I am interested in hearing from others who have 8.1H gas engines about their economy. So far it looks like I am getting about 1 mile to the gallon which is about what I expected.

This forum is a great resource and look forward to hearing from experienced Sea Ray owners.

Welcome and GRATZ on the new boat!

As I understand it, the mirrors are hinged to reduce stress on them. There is only one mounting point (across the top) and velcro holds the mirror in place elsewhere. The one on my 260DA is hinged as well and when I asked that is what I was told.

I had the same question about the mirror.. I thought it was for the optional wall safe... It would be amazing if you are getting 1 mile a gallon, the best I have done cruising is just under .9... I guess if I averaged in the no wake milage it might be 1 MPH... Welcome....

Thanks for all the replies. And the hinge on the mirror now makes some sense - thanks.

I just updated all the electronics to Garmin and really like the 12" touch screen. Now I can actually see the chart details.

Hi Folks .... I'm new here and soon to be a Sea Ray Owner (Finally).
Dumped the Bayliner so I could get a SR and landed on a 1996 270 Sundancer in great shape. Anyone know what a fair price is to pay on this single engine boat with the 7.4 Merc? Any issues or know problems to watch out for?
Thanks and I will post a pic to two once I'm on it.

I got the Garmin GPSMAP 5212. The 12" screen is great and with the Vision chart card, it has some amazing capabilities - but then again, I have not had any new electronics in about 10 years so the technology has come a long way since then.

was it hard to learn????

Extremely easy to use and by that I mean, you don't need a manual - very intuitive. That's one reason I got it. The touch screen is like using an i-Phone. With a 10 minute demo, you are on your way.

Wow....thanks
