We just got back from our first Bimini trip of the season and I thought I would post some pics and videos of our Memorial Day excursion. Although some good friends couldn't make the trip, we all had a terrific time. Ray was there (of course) with his wonderful daughter Sarah and Matt her boyfriend. We made some new friends and visited some places that we haven't visited in a long time.

The NOAA forecast for the 3 preceding days before departure indicated 4-6 foot seas in the gulf stream. I looked at the beach and thought they were off base again but when we got out there, they were right. It may have been more than 6 feet but in rolling swells from the NE. A very manageable crossing.

the weather was great while we were there and we visited all the usual places (H Harbor, Sapona, 3 rocks, Atlantis Road, etc). The highlight of the trip was staying at Bimini Big Game. What a great place. I think Ray was the first boat to check in as they just opened that day. Check out the pics.

the first vid is of the crossing. I tried to get a view of the rolling swell,,,,,,

We had a great time in Bimini this Memorial Day weekend. The crossing was smooth due to the long frequency swells, my crew didn't hit thew deck until we were within site of Bimini and there were some swells that we at least 6-8.

The White Pearl was the first boat to arrive at Bimini Big Game. I like what they have done with the place and would go back to Big Game in an instant. Cisco the dockmaster was awesome and all the staff seemed to be accomodating as could be.

We spent some time at the three rocks off Bimini Bay resort. There are lots of fish and other sea life. One of the rocks has an underwater tunnel through the rock. It was a nice swim through and you just swam through schools of fish.

The trip back was a bit rough as it was still at least 5-7 swells with a lot of windblown waves thrown in for good measure. Sarah spent most of the return trip hanging over the side chumming. Funny we didn't have any poles in the water.

Overall a good trip. All arrived home safe and had a great time. It was great spending time with Randy's family and friends.

RB,

First off, I should have said thanks for the great vidoes. They are terrific. We were at Bahia Mar for the weekend and wondered how the Memorial trip over there was going.

Yes, we are staying at Brown's. Not my first choice, but this is the only trip that worked in my calendar, plus I'm taking my son, his wife, and her brother <all in their late 20's> and they will enjoy the bars. Big Game has been my favorite. And I would like to try Bimini Bay sometime with the wife.

Thanks for the marine weather forecast. Great news indeed. Do you have a website that you recommend for that?

Thanks
Larry

Randy and Ray,

I wish I could have gone but I'm glad you had a fun and safe trip.

Big game looks pretty nice. What were the crowds like this weekend? Does it seem slower, business as usual or more crowded than the past?

On Thursday, Big Game (and Bimini Bay) were pretty empty. On Friday, both resorts started filling up. On Saturday, both resorts were full.

It was really great to see all the boats at Big Game (like old times). The staff at both resorts were great.

Thanks for the videos and pics. They've really got me excited. A couple of us from up in the Carolinas are trailering down to Ft. Lauderdale to do one of the Bahamas Tourism's Bahama Fling crossings to Bimini in a few weeks (June 23-27). It'll be the first crossing for both of us, so your videos were great to see.

Great video's and photos Randy, Ray, Sorry I couldn't get away; I ended up having to work most of the weekend... I didn't see any of the great Guy Harvey prints or signs we did for Big Game; but I'm not sure they had time to install them before the weekend. Glad you had a safe crossing and a wonderful time.

What kind of waterproof camera did you (or Nick) use over there? The snorkeling photo is really clear.

Looking forward to heading over there the 24-27th with the fling.

Barry

I agree with Randy.

We stayed at Big Game Thursday and the traffic was light. Friday the crowds started arriving and by friday night all the marinas were about full.

We tend to spend a lot of time out on the water doing things and it didn't feel too crowded out on the water. Bimini Bay was nice and it seems that most of their clientel motor in and hang out at the resort. The pools and such were jam packed.
