Taking delivery in a few weeks of a 2008 310 Sundancer. This will be our first cruiser, and looking for ideas on what we need to stock her up with. Pots, pans, cups, towels, etc. And where are the best places to buy?

Thanks,
Mike

Don't over stock like having place settings for 8.Take what you need as you go_Our rule is "if we haven't touched it in a season" it gets taken off the boat.I'm sure you will get lots of great advise here.Good Luck with your new boat!!!!

Congratulations - how exciting! I agree you should start small and don't pack too much. This product looks interesting for the galley. I've never seen it in person but it looks like a space saver. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has tried it.

Skip the "pots & pans". We bought a deep dished, teflon coated, electric skillet. We cook in it almost exclusively, often for 4 people. The wide temperature range is much more easily controlled than the propane stove eye. The glass lid, cord & cooking tools get wrapped in a towell, nested together & esily stored below the sink.

All that being said, if you plan on cooking on the hook w/no generator, you'll need to also plan another option.

I agree, 1 good pan; maybe a small pot to cook up some pasta. The only requirement we have is the Magma kettle grille. But don't go crazy with buying lots of $$$'s worth of stuff...move in, spend some time on it, then buy as you go, as already said. We enjoy picking up a small item or two when we stop in various ports and walk the local shops. Then, what you have on the boat are things that will bring back good memories (hopefully!!!). Enjoy the new 'dancer, I'm sure she will be a beauty.

Focus on the important stuff - beer - All kidding aside - my wife has tried to pack almost everything but the Christmas China - You don't need a lot and you can start adding - but silverware and some of your other common kitchen utensils are nice. Supplies for bbq...

When we had the Coast Guard do one of their volunteer inspections at the dock - he did warn my wife she had too many plates on board.

Thanks for the input - we'll start slow and go from there.

BTW - we will be located at Port Royale on Lake Lanier.

We have 1 frying pan and no other pots and pans. We have place settings for 8. There are 4 of us on board most of the time. We us the frying pan for pancakes, bacon etc. We have the built in grill so that it what we use most of the time. Same thing we eliminate items each year.

Congrats. We are in the process of finding a 320 that we like. We are at Hideaway bay(AKA Starboard Cove). Would love to see the 310 when you get her!:smt038

The items I find I use the most are:
small teflon frying pan - it's just my husband and I and then guests sometimes
2 cup measuring cup for boiling water in the microwave
pair of scissors
spatula
tongs
serving tray that fits on the cockpit counter above the ice maker
I just bought a toaster oven and I have used that a lot - I can heat up pizza, toast, and I even made a breakfast casserole. I bought the Cuisinart small one and it fits in the window area above the stove (I have a 2009 330).
A silicon pot holder that doubles as a hot plate is great.
one large serving spoon

It's fun to load the boat!!

For us, here is the galley list:

1. Lodge logic cast iron combo cooker. It's a fry pan and pot, and the fry pan acts as a lid on a pot. I like to cook, you can't beat cast iron and it goes on a stove, bbq or campfire as needed.

2.Nesting pyrex bowls with snap on covers (got a set on Amazon for $19) - can use for salad, hot stuff, cold stuff, storage or a really big bowl of soup.

3. Enamelled camp kettle and electric kettle - boiling water on the hook or with shore power is essential.

4. French press coffee maker.

5. Toaster

6. Kitchen gadgets - slotted fish lifter performs all spatula duties, good set of kitchen tongs, 7" santoku knife and 4" paring knife, whisk, can opener, wooden spoon and vegetable peeler, serving spoon and slotted spoon.

7. We bought a 4 place set of corelle dishes and 4 place settings of silverware, which works for us.

With all that stuff, we can pretty much live as normal and it doesn't take up too much space.
