I was going to work on troubleshooting my windlass today, and to my surprise when I opened the anchor well cover after all the rain we had it was full of water. Besides the obvious seal problem in the hatch, why did they not put a drain in the anchor well? I bailed out 15 gallons of water today! The joy of finding issues on a new old boat...

Also, seems I have a few small cracks along the back bulkhead which borders the forward berth. Water has been seeping through, so I have a little fiberglassing to do this winter. Any suggestions on a good product to use for this type of repair?

Thanks,
Jeff

I think they must have added drain ports in 1988. But seriously, are you sure they're not just clogged?

You can buy glass and resin at your local marine parts store. I don't think it's too critical which brand you buy. Get an appropriate size of fiberglass fabric for the job you're going to do. Resins come in differing types based on curing times (among some other, less critical attributes for such a job). I'd get one with about 30 minutes working time or so. Be sure to rough up and clean the surface.

My 1989 300DA has a drain for that locker on the port side of the bow. Its a clamshell type screwed over the drain tube which is glassed onto the inside of the hull near the bottom.

same here port side of bow 1980 260

Its likely full of mud or a wasp/spider nest clogging it.

Thanks everyone, I will check it next time. I can only hope some idot did not glass it over. Hopefully it is just my poor eye sight:smt001. I looked just straight down at the bottom when I cleaned it out, so I am hoping it is off to the side where I did not look as close.

The area along the wood pulpit is clear, the hatch seal to the locker is shot.

Thanks all
Jeff

Yes, as they are saying. On the port side at the bow there should be a through hull.

Well I am happy to report the anchor cabinet is now fixed. Yes the drain wasl clogged. When I went down yesterday I pulled the clam shell off and stuck a screwdriver through and out came the crap and about five more gallons of water.

Thanks for the geat advice.
