I just had my IAC valve go on one of my engines and while the shop was working on it they said there was a bulletin for the alternator wiring from Mercury. They are replacing the wiring this week as warrenty work. Not sure of the details but thought I would mention it.

Scott, I'd be curious to know the Merc bulletin. Interesting to have warranty work performed on a 2003 model....I bet someone went up in smoke.

I just had my starboard IAC valve go out about 2 weeks ago, the port went out 2 weeks before that. The old starboard IAC was actually burned and melted on the electrical end. These things are obviously getting some type of power surge blowing them out. I wonder if there have been any fires?

Well, I'd say something is happening if Sea Ray is fixing 03's under warranty.

Came out a couple years ago and had to do with a wire that could rub and short out. They fixed mine back in late 07. Rerouted it and put some (casing/flex cover) around the wire. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before on the board. May want to do a search for it.

When I talked to them on Saturday, they said it was a bulletin from 2 years ago that was never caught. Something about bad connections on the wiring for the alternators. Thats all he would say. I am wondering if because things are slow that they are looking for any jobs and know they can get the money because of it being warranty work?
