Guys, I'm stuck in a Marina and need your help

can you guys give me an idea on where the fuel pump is? Is it worth checking for spark even if i don't hear that "hiss"? im leaning towards pump but will try anything at this point :-(

If you're absolutely positive you're not hearing the "hiss", then you are correct - more than likely there would be no reason to check spark.

Where it is? Not sure on an MPI. Aside from someone else giving you a better answer than me, get down in the bilge and listen for it on the Starboard engine. Have someone else turn your switch on "half-way" while you listen to ID where it is.

pumps are bolted onto the floorboard directly in front of the engines. Dhey have a black screw on top which is the bypass for the valve to manually shut it off. They do hiss when you start the ignition switch as they pressurize the system. Look below your water tank for the port side pump screwed into the grey colored support board.

This just happened to a buddy of mine it was the fuel pump power supply - it was a small black module (kind of like an automotive flasher) that plugged into the wiring harness somewhere on the engine - try to find and swap those

By this time... you should really be asking for advice as to what to do with the crying kids!

You could also follow the fuel line from the filter and that will get you to the fuel pump.

You may try turning the main power keys on and off a couple of times just to check that there is no problem with the contacts in the switches. (I'm talking about the key switches next to the main battery on/off switches)

ok i just removed what i thought was the fuel pump but turned out to be the fuel valve. it has the screw on it to bypass the fuel i believe. anyways... i think the pump is located right next to the filter. its looks like it all in one harness. sound correct?

It should have a 2 wire plug on the pump

should be right above your fuel water sep filter. you will see fuellines and an electrical connection going into a cylinder looking thing.

The pump should look like this

I hope this helps. I have no idea where they mounted it in the 280DA.

Best of luck. Give the kids rags and some wax and the ones that do the best job get ice cream later.

Is that a electric pump? It looks like a mechanical, with the same gasket that would be bolted to the engine.

I'm thinking this - don't know where it is mounted.[IMG]http://www.mercstuff.com/images/electpump1.jpg

Paul you may be spot on. I believe I'm wrong on the one I posted. That is a mechanical one, and he'll need

the electrical unit like you mentioned.

Ouch!! 2 pumps to test...One low other high pressure (items 11 & 15). You may have fuel pressure, but not enough.

PMC: note that not all 5.0's have the pump you show above - depends on the serial number.

you should hear that hiss you describe (fuel pump) so if you dont, check fuses that power the port side to make sure none are tripped. You might also try pulling a fuel line AFTER the pump and see if fuel is moving through the line. Make SURE you have the blowers going and vent the area afterwards until he fuel vapor smell is gone. This will help you understand if fuel is moving through the system the way it should. The IAC valves have also known to be problematic so maybe see if there is one that you can swap out (maybe from starboard to port just to see if thats the problem). Hope this helps

Please put the kids ashore somewhere safe while you try to blow up the boat as described above. (Yikes!)
