I am trying to figure out how to get one of those danged butane cans in my Kenyon stove.

I drop the can in so that it engages with the tab on the top. I know that it is engaged because I can't turn it in either direction. I then put the black cover on the top and try to turn it to closed.

As soon as I put that cap on I hear the can start to spray butane. Even after I get it completely locked I can still hear it spraying. When I tried it last night it was still making noise for 5 seconds so I pulled the cap off and pulled the can out to find a puddle of butane in the bottom of the tube.

What is the secret with these things?

There is no secret. Something is wrong. We use ours all the time. It is a great little stove.

I just drop the can in the chute without regard to the position of the "notch" on the rim and then rotate it until the can until it drops in the last 1/4". All that is left is to align the cap properly and push it down while turning it to the right until it latches. I never hear any butane spraying. Ever. Not even a little bit.

There is no "secret". It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. Have you looked down into the bottom of the chute where the can goes to be sure that there aren't any foreign objects in it? If something gets dropped down in there it may prevent the can from fully seating when you put the cap on.

I'm not near the boat right now, but if I remember correctly, the can has a hole in the top and the "pin" is in the chute. Look in there to make sure that it is not bent.

Good luck,
Michael

At least on mine, the butane canister installation is almost idiot proof from the standpoint that if you don't have it installed correctly and fully seated, you will not be able to close the door holding the canister. There is a seal inside the canister receiver that is designed to seal off on the top of canister. Either you have a defective butane canister (maybe a bent lip not allowing a good seal) or you have a bad stove seal.

Try a new canister and if that doesn't work contact your dealer or Kenyon to see if there is DIY seal kit Needless to say, a butane leak inside your cabin is nothing to mess around with.
