There is a small tear in a section of the canvas that attaches to the boat's stern latching knobs. The tear does not compromise the funtionality of the canvas but, if not repaired, will probably get worse over time.

Since the tear is not in a critical part of the canvas, I am thinking about repairing it myself. Does anyone have any canvas repair tips they can share? Is there a heavy-duty thread I should use to sew it together? Is there a glue that should be applied also? Thanks.

This is a cheap fix at a canvas shop.......cheap and easy enough that if you tell the canvas guy that "I'm trying to get one more year out of my old canvas. Since we are using the boat all the time now, can you fix this to hold until I can get to next fall, then we'll talk about redoing the whole top"

He'll probably fix it for free if you take it down and carry it to him then put it back up.

I have used an iron on patch on a small tear in the past.Just don't get the iron too hot.

I had the damn windshield wiper wear a small hole in the canvas when I trailered the boat down to Tennessee... we repaired that with the iron on patch from the back and it worked perfect

I like the idea of taking it to the canvas shop, since they are the experts. However, if that is inconvenient, West Marine sells this kit called Tear-Aid which can be used for canvas repairs.
