2006 260 Sundancer that is kept inside and dry. Always washed and detailed on a typical basis. Yellowing on the deck , not on the non skid deck. nothing will rid the yellowing. Man I don't know what to do!:smt013

The yellowing is caused by mold release compound used when the deck was manufactured. Most likely, it was not completely cleaned off the gelcoat at the factory. When this happens in the first year, Sea Ray usually handles it as a warranty item. After that, it is considered a cosmetic issue and is usually not covered.

Most of the time a good cleaning with rubbing compound folled by buffing the deck with a polishing compound takes care if it. I had several spots on my boat and have been able to get rid of them with compound. One really stubborn spot required sanding with 1500 then 2000 grit wet or dry paper followed by compound.

Good luck with it..................

can i buy the rubbing compound and polish compound at the auto store?

When you apply the compound do you have rub hard to get past the yellow?

Yes, and yes!

The rubbing compound can be the regular heavy duty white compound but the polishing compound should be "clear coat" safe. You can use a rotary polisher as long as you keep the RPM's below about 1800.

Good info for many of us!! Thanks again Frank!

Also, and I have personally seen this work before.

Get some Yacht Brite Buff Magic and liberally put it on the yellowing area. Cover it up with painters tape and saran wrap and let it sit overnight. Come back the next day and buff it off!

Most would give two thumbs down on using products from the auto store.

You want a rubbing compound intended for gelcoat on a fiberglass, and not for a metal automobile. West Marine, Bass Pro, etc. will see gelcoat compounds. I can't tell you what the difference is betwee Mcguiars Compound for cars vs. boats, but supposedly, it's important.
