We have had a bunch of these show up on our lake since COVID. People with too much money and no boating skills. I love watching them stuff at speed in rough conditions. It shouldn't bring me joy, but it does. My second favorite thing is to watch them trying to dock and hammering into on of the fingers and bouncing off. And they all think the docking lights are really cool headlights for night driving like on their cars.Anybody who would go and buy a $400,000 pontoon with twin 400 hp outboards definitely has questionable decision making abilities in my book. There are so many better things you could buy at that price point.
I think that last part is where the seething hatred for pontoon owners took root…We have had a bunch of these show up on our lake since COVID. People with too much money and no boating skills. Two summers ago - running my 52 south on the Banana River. Littered with pontoons and jet skiis. The little dog pecker nats buzzing around behind the back of my boat crashing and burning in the wake. The pontoons giving me a WIDE berth. Except that one - About an 18 foot Harris, nice boat with full bimini. That pilot drove into my 4 foot wake full tilt just behind my boat. He hit that wake and it just about stopped the pontoon right there and a wall of water completely covered it then pierced through the other side and shoveled the nose into the water. He was thrown from the helm as well as his four or five passengers were scattered about. The bimini collapsed. It was a mess. I stopped and came around to check and the dog pecker nats all were there ooing and aweing and that guy was seriously pissed, drunk, and bleeding. I pulled my phone to call 911 to get him some help and my friend was recording on her phone - He saw me getting on the phone after I said I was calling in the emergency and all of a sudden he got pleasant and said "my fault" sorry and went to get his rig started and away..... Scared the shit out of me thinking my wake, my fault.....I think that last part is where the seething hatred for pontoon owners took root…
I spent a lot of money and time trying to make eliminate glare at my helm the dark place in the water for my night vision
Bet he doesn't try that again. My boat can take a wave for a bowrider and it is a dry ride. But when the 50'+ DAs and DBs on our lake run on plane or at plowing speed I give them a wide berth and pull the throttle back. I'm not concerned about my boat, just the passengers. No need to beat the sh!t out of my crew. I have had a fair number of toons stuff in my wake. I don't see it as my fault if they make the choice to cross right behind my boat. Two summers ago - running my 52 south on the Banana River. Littered with pontoons and jet skiis.
