2006 340 dancer sportsman putting in an ac unit up on the helm. I need to fish a 10 gauge wire from the panel in the cabin to the engine compartment. Are there any tricks or easy ways?

You can go from the panel up into to the area behind the cupboard holder and speaker next to the helm.

For a 15A 120 VAC you only need 14ga. Why 10Ga? Nothing wrong with going bigger, but a lot more cost.

Just want to be safe with wire gauge. Less resistance more load capacity. I will start poking around at it over the weekend and see what happens. Just wanted to know if there was a specific route to the box, sounds like Kevin c route might be best path.

AC is MUCH less impacted by wire distance and gauge compared to DC circuits. You don’t need to go to 10 gauge. The installation manual will tell you the minimum to use and probably says 14. But hey, its your boat and your money.

On a side note, smaller gauge wire is much easier to pull through tight areas in a new install, FWIW.

Did you already invest in the AC unit and all the accessories? You may want to check in with some folks regarding cockpit AC effectiveness before spending the long dollar (if you haven't already one so)...

completed job looks great was a breeze actually to get the wires pulled. had ac on my helm in my old boat was fantastic made sure this one was even more powerful so it will keep everything cool.
