Hi all, first post here. Bought my first boat last year, pictured below. Got a few things fixed, got a stereo upgrade half done, but looking for some input on sub placement.

So far I’ve got my JL 800/8 amp in, and 2 pairs of JL 7.7 components. Speakers were bought used as a set and also had a JL 10” infinite baffle sub. From what I understand, IB subs need to have front and rear totally isolated, with large/“infinite” enclosures, so mounting in the hull is the general idea.

Problem is, this boat has no flat interior space to do that. Aft bench seats have curved front, sidewalks around helm have trim/vinyl accents everywhere.

All I can come up with is to create two walls in the captain/co-captain footwells to completely seal the helm off from the hollow that wraps behind the bow seats and to the front anchor storage bin. In that wall I can cut my hole and mount the sub, and could even have one in each footwell if I wanted to down the road.

There are always compromises putting speakers in boats. What about this area? Looks like it would open up to the inside of the hull.

The other option is to sell what you got, and but a under seat, of bazooka tube if you can find room.

Last option would be to mount full range pods on your ski arch.

I don’t think there’s enough flat space there. This is one other location I considered, but wasn’t sure if it was hollow or not. I drilled a small hole through the top but it seemed like it had foam in it, perhaps I just didn’t drill deep enough but I was concerned I was doing things I shouldn’t be haha. If anyone here is familiar of the construction of this area I’d appreciate any more info. (Picture is not my boat, but same model)

There will be foam in lot's of cavities to meet/exceed the Coast Guard requirements. But... how much space do you have in front of that short wall before you are into the bow seating storage area? Do some measuring.

Can you build a box and place it above that area?

Yes, that is one of the clearer options. I think I’m first going to attempt to create a trim ring that conforms to the shape of the aft bench seat front. If I can get something looking good then I’ll do that, and make it appear as though it’s designed for the speaker, as opposed to trying to match the gel coat. If that looks bad I’ll build a box for the helm. If anyone else sees this thread and went another route I’d love to see it!

I started with a sealed prefab, then I went small ported and now I have 2.6cf stuffed under the helm.
