Anybody upgrade their arch speakers to something larger/Much larger?

Boat came with cutout for 6" speakers (not even 6.5's), and looking to go bigger with some fusion Signature 3 7.7's or 8.8's. Looking behind the existing speakers, I find the backing plate for the outside arch handle. Depth is pretty limited, so I'll need a trim ring.

What speaker did you install and what sizes were your trim rings? Pictures would help!

Went with an 8” Rockford Horn Tweeter. Had the same issue with the depth so had Boat Outfitters whip me up a set of trim rings. Turned out great

Looks like those are equivalent to the Fusion 7.7' and I calculated I need a 1" trim ring.

Anybody gone bigger?

Mostly married to Fusion, but thinking about cheating! Love the Apollo, but trying to squeeze some new/better sound into this old boat is harder than it first looks.

The 6’s I have are 2.7” deep. Mounting depth is those Wet sounds is 3.32” vs 4” for the Fusion 8.8’s, and 3” for the 7.7’s. I’ll have to look when I get home, but anything bigger than the 7.7’s will likely need a double trim ring as it looks like the thickest trim ring available is 1”.

Just wonder how that would look.

I am no audio guru, as witnessed by my audio pots here. But, a radar arch is not very deep. I thought speakers need space/volume.

Good question. As long as the back of the driver is not bumping against the inside, all is good. Depth is not as important, but total air space is. As longs the cast arch/tower is wide open inside, which most are, then the air volume for the speaker, is there.

My friends boat is a 380 and he used the 1" rings. The don't look that bad. They would look nicer if the were tapered though.

I just put an update in the Stereo Upgrade post I had, but as far as bigger speaker in the arch of a 410 or similar year boat? 7.7's are about as big as I could go without installing a huge trim ring to accomodate the depth of the speaker (side to side space was good).

I measured and could likely get away with 1.5" (a double stacked 3/4") but to give myself some wiggle room, I was more than likely going to have to go 1-3/4 (so a double stacked 1" and 3/4") and I thought it just protrudes too much for my liking.

So 7.7's it is.
