Check out this story.

That's an old story. If you want to hear about idiots check out that story on Lake Louise. Woman jumps overboard with the anchor because that's what she thought was the correct method. She struggles two guys jump in after her and they both drown

Here in Northern IL there is a "Chain of Lakes". One night a guy takes a girl out on his boat, shuts the engine off and they do some "horizontal dancing"... Afterwards he jumps in to cool and clean off... boat drifts away from him. he can't keep up with the drift and she doesn't know how to start the boat. He drowns in like 6' of water. He probably could have stood up...

Links, please.

@Pirate Lady Man this is a scary event, I remember reading about that. You just can't underestimate the stupidity that surrounds you. The old guy looking at his phone and can't over his new electronics, gets around on a scooter and finds himself driving a boat at speed nearly killing three people. Then dies before his trial date! OMG! Makes you want to strangle someone ...

"he couldn’t see where he was going because he was sitting down and the dash of his boat was blocking his view"

I live down the Fox River from the chain, but I’ve been on it before in my 20’s. Will avoid it now that I have my own boat and family. However stupidity seems to happen all places. This happened in St Charles where there isn’t much to actually boat….. It popped up because the driver of the boat that got hit was someone who owned a boat I looked at before buying our Supra. His passenger was the one who lost a leg when they were hit by a speeding boater while they were either idling or anchored close to shore.

A group of us were at Middle Bass Is. Oh. A 45' MY. came in and the people onboard were already in the bag and the Captain had a pretty good buzz on. 4 hours later they all headed back to the boat and the Captain was passed out in the yard. When they got the Captain back to the boat everyone in the marina was telling them they should stay put for awhile . Captain response was ( I Fucking go this). None of them were in the condition to be on a boat on Lake Erie let alone operating one. On the way out he almost took out a few boats just getting out of the marina. At this point my buddy called the Coast Guard told them what was going on. Gave the CG. their home port info. The boat ran aground on a sandbar but was able to get free of it. The CG. said they couldn't find the boat even though they knew it's heading and Home Port. I don't think the CG. even bothered. Seen the boat on the hard the following weekend with all the running gear all bent up. Found out later this wasn't the first time this guy banged up his boat because of the same reason.

The only people that seem to care about your boat skill is the insurance provider. Getting a boat license is easier than getting driver's license. Does anyone know of any states or country that have an on water test for pleasure boating license?

I was kind of surprised to read this, but it is Idaho, after all: "(T)here are no Idaho boating laws that require boaters to be of minimum age, take a safety class or pass a proficiency exam. Although there are no such laws, certain counties in ID have local ordinances that require residents to be within a certain age range in order to operate water vessels." https://www.dmv.com/id/idaho/boatin...utm_term=organic_dmv&utm_campaign=organic_dmv
