500/520 DB official thread

We moved a few months ago, and our new marina is an area that gets strong winter winds. Combined with recent low temps and snow, decided to have some vent covers made to keep the engine room warm.

I Finally got tired of looking at that steering wheel with the padding all curled up. Drove over to Flounder Pounder (down the road from me) and picked this one up; I was rebuilding the helm pump anyways....
Going camping somewhere on the boat tomorrow and it will be nice to be at the helm

Has anyone removed the hide-away bed from the port settee? We are planning on a 6 week trip this summer towards Alaska, and I am thinking that putting in a Dometic dual voltage cooler in that space would be great. Figure the bed is waste, we’ve never used it.

I removed mine when we bought the boat. It is a great place for storage. I store all my covers in that area. It wasn’t hard to take out. You will Need 2 people to lift it out and off the boat. I bought and air mattress that fits between the couches that we have used a few times with my kids friends so it isn’t missed at all.

Yep very easy and a great storage location we used it as a pantry for 2 years.

I assume there are a couple of screws that hold it in place?

Did you keep the bed frame and mattress, in the event you want to sell the boat?

4 lag bolts if I remember, I threw the crappy mattress out kept the bed frame and actually had a buddy transport it in his van to Fla for the new owners.

I have the frame and mattress in my in-laws basement for storage. I will put it back in when I sell the boat. I think there were 6-8 screws holding it into the couch frame.

Awesome, thank you for the info. I’ll measure to see if I can fit one of the Dometic dual voltage coolers in that space. 6 weeks and very few grocery stores requires more storage.

Great move. I just did the same thing past weekend. Love the new look!

Slightly different model but the same idea. I removed mine and it's been sitting on a "shelf" for the past 10 years. That space is an excellent storage. Just be mindful that it gets pretty warm, as the ER warms up. Don't store anything in there that can get spoil quickly.

I’d be careful with the fridge in there it may be fine but that will produce heat and may make that couch very warm. Just some thoughts but a good idea just the same
We had large bins in there for Pantry type items this way they don’t roll around

argh I miss the boat now talking about it.

Good point - any powered cooling system needs to exchange heat. If it is covered up in that seat area it will not be able pull cool air in and exhaust the hot air; it will recycle the hot air and eventually not work at all.
That happened on the new clear ice maker I installed - I had to double the air slots in the door. Also, when I installed the new refrigeration in the galley I had to cut holes in the back of the cabinets to below into the laundry room so they could exchange heat as there were no under door grill vents like the SubZero units had. All refrigeration systems make more heat than they cool.

That space is just one big return box for the Salon AC so any heat produced will get sucked through the AC which may make it less efficient. That being said the AC moves so much air that the heat produced by the Refrigeration would be negligible to warming up the area.

Oh, I thought we were talking about where the bed was stowed on the starboard side. That area next to the AC unit on the port side - a different story for sure. My bad.

I wonder when SR switched things over? 2008?
Probably 2009 when they lengthened the cockpit, updated the galley, lower galley storage area and bunk room.

2006 - The "H" location is where the Hide-A-Bed is on my boat. The "I" location is the Audio Video Locations. The "K" location is the power panels and below the HVAC unit. And all storage under the "L" location except for the Bose unit under the cushion by the door. There would be a LOT of storage available if that bed was taken out; we've never used it either.
