Wow, the detail in that badge blew me away. Good job.
Thanks. That's actually my least favorite to do cause the detail is so great that there are too many flaws for me. This particular sign was for my step-sons (B) partner in the detective bureau. He was the one that trained B. He was in his mid 40's. Left early like usual to go to the gym but never showed up for work. They called home and was hoping he slept in or something but his wife said he had left. B went to the gym and Brians car was there so he kicked the door in since he didn't have his key. Found Brian laying on the floor by the treadmill. They watched the security cam footage and saw he grabbed his chest and stepped off the treadmill and fell over.
A few days earlier they were sitting in the office and Brian asked B what he got his wife for anniversary. Then Brian said he still had to get her something. B asked when their anniversary was and Brian said the date, which turned out to be in 1 week. So B mentioned buying Penguin playoff tickets. Next morning he was dead. So B emailed the Penguins office and told them what happened and the Penguins called him immediately and gave them 3 tickets for the wife and 2 sons and also put his name up on the scoreboard. Pretty cool of them to do that.
 
Working on a swim platform insert for our 320. 3/4’ thick aluminum with black uhmw inserts for contrast. Not sure if I will have it chromed or hard coated. Machined this on a home made cnc router. He is in an honorable position. Programing is "A" key. Program, set up, Run, & Establish MIP ( Machining Information Pack) for projects is really king. Once you prove out parts Pass QC w/ Fit / Finish the pride of craftsmanship can not be beat. I started with 2 D parts and quickly found out 5 Axis eliminated so many operations.

I have a 5 axis it truly is remarkable…. We use all probe setup and inprocess inspection with Spc output…..tool wear monitor and spindle and axis monitoring it really is cool stuff

Just curious, what ERP/MES applications are you using?
When I bought the company they were using E2 …. It is fine for accounting creating routes and travelers and shop floor bar coding progress….. but it sucked at scheduling and capacity planning when it comes to multiple operations. E2 isn’t going to be supported soon and is being turned into job boss….. I don’t like job boss for the price and haven’t fixed scheduling/capacity planning.
When I was in a career manufacturing job I was on a team to create a new erp system called Onramp…… we modeled a spreadsheet into a complex scheduling capacity planning model that eventually got incorporated into Onramp….. I still use that spreadsheet program outside of E2 and then data load the result into E2.

I had a client that manufactures specialty crankshafts in southern Illinois. They have 4 two axis lathes that are 15ish feet long. They bought a 5 axis machine that was so big they had to break through the concrete floor to pour footings 4' deep and steel reinforced. That thing produced some giant crankshafts super fast. They are mostly for tractors that compete in tractor pulls and special built high output diesels. They hired me to help them figure out their true cost per machine hour so they could price their parts appropriately. It is a family operation that outgrew the family's skillset.
 
I would find your method for doing this very interesting.
More art than science. The challenge is identifying the direct costs for each machine and segregating those from overhead. If the client doesn't understand the difference the task is difficult. Otherwise, it's cost accounting 101.

I keep it pretty simple
Depreciation
Labor both direct and support by machine
Overhead, building mtce,shipping receiving, quality, office, utilities, engineering etc divided by square feet or part numbers or cell… pick one
Consumables is easy …if you do tool life by part number then it’s really easy, coolant, oils
Maintenance
Scrap
Machine/cell efficiency to figure out run hours
