Just purchased a Weekender 300, my first boat. I have a couple of questions about this type of boat. Where would I find the circuit board the horn is inoperative and I want to check the fuse. When I start the boat do I move the battery switch from 1 & 2 to 1? Thanks for your help.

The Horn circuit should be in the compartment directly under the dashboard/steering wheel. You can trace the wire from the dash to the fuse from there. Usually all of that checks out and it's the horn itself, but stranger things have happened. I've replaced a few horns when they just quick working. Corrosion inside the horn, bugs, etc., keep it from working.

As far as the battery switch goes, leave it in either spot. It will pull from that battery and as long as Battery #1 and #2 are compatible (Same age, brand, size, etc.) you should be OK leaving it on Both 1 and 2. I usually leave mine on both for a weekend, but on longer trips I might alternate them depending on how many days I'll be stopped without running the boat. You should have three batteries in the boat. One is a dedicated starting battery for the Port (or Starboard?) engine. The two house batteries start the other engine. There is also an emergency switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel (The CLOSEST switch, I think!). If your starting battery is dead, you can use this to connect the house batteries and get it started or if your house batteries are dead, switch to a single battery and then start that engine. It's kind of a like jumping your batteries without a cable.

That is a LARGE first boat! They are great, require a ton of maintenance but you'll find a bunch of us on here with that same era boat. The side, ride quality and handling are excellent!

Thank you. One of the selling points of the boat was it came loaded with electronics (radar, GPS, Autopilot) and the previous owner kept pretty good care of it until his health faded. I have a punch list of items to repair however, I believe this will be a fun journey.

This is my panel the horn and trim breaker is the second from the right. It must be on for your horn and trim tabs to work. The black switch under it blows the horn.

Why do all phone pics show up upside down? This happens to me all the time and I can't seem to find a tool that will flip them on this site.

Usually it happens with I phones and not Androids.

I removed the broken Standard Horizon radio. I left most of the wires, power (bottom of fuse holder) and the speaker and Chart plotter wires. Attached a new radio, no power. Checked the power chord and the line that is secured to the back of the helm and there was no current. The breaker that controls the stereo controls the radio. The stereo works.

You’re going to have to trace the power line. On mine the Aux switch controls the VHF. Both radios will have a inline fuse

I found the power switch for the VHF, same one as the stereo, when I flipped it on nothing. I will add it to the punch list.

Had the manifolds and risers replaced, then I added fresh water flush out kits to the sea strainers.

Was going around 12 knots, the engine indicator showed both engines equal, yet the starboard was about 1500 RPM higher than the port. The starboard RPM's lowered to the same as the port, then went up again. No adjustments were made to speed and indicator showed both engines still equal.

Those tach can be unreliable. Did the engines sound actually change or just the tach reading?

On the back is a 4 6 8 switch, turn it rapidly thru all settings several times and return to the correct setting and see how it works. That cleans up the contacts a bit.
