The Grim reaper strikes. Official death thread

Hockey Legend Bobby Hull, dead at 84. May the “Golden Jet” RIP. :(
I grew up a huge hockey fan. Huntsville, Al actually had a youth hockey program at the Ice Palace back in the 60s and 70s. Plus NBC had a weekly telecast with good old Peter Puck trying to teach us all the rules. Bobby Hull was my first favorite hockey player. Man he was fast on skates.

And that slap shot with his curved blade…..remember the “Bobby Hull Rule”?

I curved a few sticks like his back in the 60's. Soak the blade in hot water. Then wedge the tip under a door. Some 2x4's and a cinder block to get the curve. Made stick handling and backhand shots suffer so I gave up on the big curve.

So, did you come out of your hockey playin days with all your teeth??

Cindy “Shirley” Williams from American Graffiti and Laverne & Shirley.

Bob Born, the engineer who mechanized the formation of marshmellow treats called Peeps, has died. Born 1924.....

My moms father was bon in 1895 in Slovakia. Came to US at age 14, got married and had 8 kids with his first wife. She died in her 30s and he got married a second time to a lady with 3 kids of her own. They then had my mom. We always kidded her that she's an only child with 11 brothers and sisters. Mom's last living sibling passed away last night at age 95. Aunt Julie. Most all of her siblings lived into their 90s. She's still the baby at age 88. I had brunch with her this morning and she gave me the news. It was mostly a nice moment where we reminisced about her family and my Dad (he passed away in 2016).

My condolences, sorry to hear about your Aunt Julie.

I've a similar story...my Dads father, born 1887 in Zagreb, Croatia came to the US when he was 17. He met and married a Serb girl in NYC and they had 6 kids. All of them have passed away except for my fathers sister Julie. My Aunt Julie would have been 100yo this past Jan 4th but she fell and hit her head, died last November 8th, so 99yo will have to do.

Mississauga Ontario former mayor "Hurricane" Hazel McCallion at age 101. She was quite a dynamo. I heard her speak many times and shook her hand at several events over the years that I was involved with. She looked the same from her 70's to the day she died. She never seemed to have any mental decline. She was sharp as a tack. Timeless.

Hazel was one of the first women professional hockey players in the late 1920s, she skated into her 70s. If you read her bio, she was a servant of the people for all of her career and was mayor of Mississauga from 1978 to 2014 (36 years). Don Cherry was one of her close friends. From her actions and policies, she was small "c" conservative. She never really aligned with a political party, but she did support a few liberals over the years, but never anyone far left at all.
