58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

We really liked it. 10 miles from our condo. Close to the ICW. Sad it took such a bad hit.

Good luck Wednesday night! Crown Weather says 75-85 mph at coast in...

Carter,

send them to sea-tronics they have a quick turn around.

I can’t understand metric. When ours failed, I had my phone out to constantly convert.

Ken

This is great advice -
I had a MMDS display that was defaulting to metric readings. I contacted SeaTronics on their website and Mike was able to explain what the issue was and what the best step forward would be. I removed both MMDS displays and the boards from the MAN control panels and took them to SeaTronics. They replaced the batteries and bench tested each unit.
Once I got back to the boat I replaced all of them and had one display that didn't power on. I again sent a message to SeaTronics on their website explaining that I had a question on the installation. I got a call directly from Mike ON A SUNDAY afternoon that explained the power wires and I discovered I had a wiring error on my part. I reconnected and Whala - problem solved. I will use SeaTronics again and will recommend them to anyone with a repair need.

FRESHWATER SYSTEM

When I began prepping the boat for the 2021/22 winter, I was a bit baffled by the water manifold... until learning from folks here that the "transom shower" outlet is also an inlet... functioning as a 2-way street.

I decided at the time that a schematic would be useful, and recently I've gotten around to making one for my own reference. I'm posting that here in case others might find it useful, too.

I've also attached a PDF version.

The original is in PowerPoint, but it looks like the site won't let me upload that. Happy to forward to email, so folks can feel free to PM me to arrange that.

I didn't take the time this year to puzzle out why there are two guest head colds and one guest head hot. I'll get around to that, sometime...

Chris thanks so much - very informative and will go in my file

Chris would you say the max water pressure coming into the boat from shore water is 55 PSI

Our original pressure regulator was 35 psi. I've replaced that after it failed, and the new one is 45 psi. Our replacement freshwater pump -- new version of original -- is 55 psi max, cut in is at 40 psi.

It's possible to get higher dockwater pressure by using the transom washdown outlet as an inlet (with a fender changer). I found a " portable" pressure regulator to us on that, Camco I think, 65 psi I think...

SUNPAD -- OEM?

Anyone know who made the originals?

Sea Ray hasn't been responsive (seems odd). One of the local Sea Ray dealers guessed Gioia Sails, but Dawn Gioia tells me they apparently didn't make it. (Or at least have no records, no pattern.)

I have a local canvas guy, but before I get in touch with him I wondered if anyone can lead me an easier way...

Mine were remade by my PO - he removed the hardware for the backrests - an they appear to be made out of "unobtanium" as I've had no luck finding them either.

I think one of Boat Out Fitters sub companies made the "starboard" frames for them so they might have had the canvas done also. You might check with Theo at BOF to see if he can help.

Boatswains-locker did all the factory Canvass for the 55 Sundancer. Talking with them they seem to imply they did all the canvass for the big Sea Rays during that time. Point being, I called and ordered the Drop Curtain from them (which was a factory option) and they said they needed to check to see if they had the dimensions of my boat. Yes, my actual Hull ID. #341. The lady comes back a few minutes later and says, yep we got all the dimensions of your boat. I asked if they measured every Sea Ray Big boat. She said yep. She said believe it or not, not every Hard top ends up in the exact same spot. So we measured every single boat at the factory. If I need a new Canvass Back one day, I just call them and they already have the dimensions. The Drop curtain they sent fit perfectly, Pretty cool. Maybe they made the Sun Pads too? Would make sense that they did.

Thanks, that may be helpful. Our cockpit canvas is from them, and it happens I'm missing a panel. I see their website says "58SDB: FULL ENCLOSURE orders only" so I'll just have to talk with them to see if that means cockpit panels -- aft curtains -- too (versus bridge enclosures).

Hadn't thought about them maybe having done the sunpad, too. I see no mention of sunpads on their site, but I'll ask.

What's a Drop Curtain?

Speaking of our cockpit canvas, I've only just begun paying attention, and it's been too cold to comfortably spend much time yutzing with it...

But I'm a bit baffled by an extra flap of material that hangs down from starboard panel #3 -- the one that turns the corner and straddled the cockpit gate. It has female snaps installed, nothing mates up with anywhere on the hull or the gate -- so no clue what it's for or what to snap it to.

Both starboard #3 and port #3 panels have some straps attached, inside, at one of the seams. Ditto no clue what those are for.

??

Cheers, -Chris

The flap snaps to the transom door and closes off the gap there.

Are the straps on the panel's #3 to raise or roll them up and attach/snap the strap above somewhere in the cockpit so you don't have to completely remove the when you need some ventilation but still need cover?

That was my first guess, but there aren't any obvious male snaps on or near the transom door that would work for that. That flap has two female snaps, one at each lower corner... but the fabric just kinda hangs there...

Hmmm... Yep, maybe could be that. Thanks, I'll check.

Chris -
Mine has snaps on the top of the door. I'm flying up from Florida to Chattanooga tomorrow to check boat heaters (it's going down to 11° Friday night!!), and I'll get a picture for you.

Hi everyone! Okay, so here is one of the questions i feel stupid asking but going to any way. LOL. We moved up from a 2007 44 SB to the 580 SB a month and a half ago. Obviously the cleats on the boat are “split” and significantly bigger than the 44…..is there a trick to tying off on the cleats on the bowlines when in the slip? I feel like the traditional way of tying off on a cleat does not work on these larger split cleats, but i know i’m probably just not doing something right. Thanks for any tips!

Same on the 52. I either put the loop side over or do three minimum hitches with 5/8 double braid.
